I was hoping for this release announcement but I guess another cycle or two? I do appreciate that Canon does not make announcements for products that are a year away like some of the other companies out there.

Well I guess my wallet is happy....

Could still come at PMA, I suppose. But I bet it's in the Fall of this year.

There's still the chance that they're going to announce more gear...

Looking at the 1D3, a 1Ds3 looks incredibly promising!

They will announce more gear, though probably not any more in the 1-series or f/2.8 zooms. Chances are they will announce the 40D and one or two lower-cost lenses than the 16-35/2.8L Mk II.

Given the 1D3 specs, it will not be hard to guess what the 1Ds3 specs will be. Dang, another 6 month wait...

...probably an 18-200 IS EF-S or similar.

Funny to see guys with 1ds MKIIs and all the bells and whistles comment about no 1ds mk3. Most people would love a MKii . I am ultra curious myself to see what they do come out with.

1Ds MK II was great in 2004, but it is 2007 now. And some people want to shoot teles without the largest glass. More pixels would allow some cropping and 4FPS is sometimes too slow.

I doubt the 1Ds III is going to be faster than 4 FPS as well based on the throughput numbers of the 1D III.

hear - hear. I would love to see a speed verses resolution trade off along with the nice improved features of the 1D3.

In my opinion, the 1Dsmk2 can still give the best images of any 35mm DSLR..

The 1Ds2 is still king Even if a 1Ds3 did come out, the 1Ds2 is no less of a camera. I'm anxious for a 1Ds3 because it's between it and a medium formet digital back. The 1Ds3 will win on price, but the added DR solution and boosting to ISO 200 (even says increased noise in the white paper) doesn't make me too happy... I hope Canon puts more emphasis on image quality with the 1Ds3 - like full 16-bit files and without the ISO voodoo. Pg 12 in the white paper in case anybody is curious.

I hope 1Ds MkIII will show up in a couple of months... We might be really
surprised when it's finally here. The official samples might be quite old...

Woohooo

Im spared the big dollar crash of my 1ds2 yet again. Yipppeeeeeeeeee

With the price of the 1d3 that means the 1ds3 will be near 7k too. My cam will still be near 5k used after 1d3 release.

YAYYYYYYYYY

I'm on the other side of this....
I have been thinking of going from my 1D II to a 1Ds II, but I think I'll wait the extra months for the 1DsIII
To me, the performance of the 1ds II is enough to satisfy my needs years to come, but the thought of getting a self cleaning sensor thrown in on the deal would make the extra wait worth sitting out.... (also gives me time to save extra funds :-D)
That said, I still think the 1DII is a fabulous camera, I do not see myself pushing it's limits.

Paul Pope has just said the 1Ds III is September release. He says Canon could not make a unified camera with 10fps at the 1.3x crop. However, he feels the extra 6 months will rsult in a cheaper 1Ds III as they refine the sensor production.

He says 30D replacement to still be announced and EF-S lenses. Again sounds like no 400 f/5.6L IS or 100-400 f/4L IS or 200 f/1.8L IS

NO disrespect to Paul Pope but he is not always correct with his predictions. Nonetheless it is pretty clear that the 1Ds III will be released at some point and since it has been anticipated for a year now, fall is a safe bet

my guess is september.   i'd much prefer it to be announced at PMA though since i'd be able to use it during the bulk of my shooting as well as have it in-hand for fall landscapes.   maybe we'll luck out and see it in june or july.

my checkbook is ready either way.

The information that I have is that the 1Ds MkIII is going to be announced in fall of 2007 with all of the 1D Mk3 improvements and a 22 MP sensor.
