I need some help here... I am about to buy a 24++ lens..

So i need some help because i've never tried f/4 IS b4 only 2.8 so im planning to buy the 24-105mm f/4L IS or 24-70mm f/2.8

Can someone like list down the uses of 24-105 and the uses of 24-70? i know there are plenty of uses to it but i need some like

24-105: travel.....
24-70: photojournalism?? i have no idea...

You can use a lense for anything you want to. Looking at your lense list, it seems that you have these focal lengths covered so I don't understand the "true" nature of the question. Why? You can use these two lenses for the same things you can use your other similar focal lengths for.

Maybe you can give more input so as to give better insight to your question.

Im, trying to throw out my 28-80 and 18-55 cause the sharpness is down...
So i'll mostly to travel, landscape and indoor events. which makes it hard to choose on 2.8 or IS.. you see.. So i may want to go into different types of photography in the future so i would like to know on the uses on the lenses..thanks so much fo willing to help..

I can only write for myself, my experience and what I'd do.

First, it depends on how deep your fiscal pockets are. Second, there's way too many possible uses to define a list for a set of lenses. You need to define your uses and a budget so choices can be offered.

From what little I could gleen from your above comment, the first two lenses that I'd recommend would be a Sigma 20/1.8 and a Canon 24-105/4.0L IS. These two lenses would be a wonderful start to any high quality kit that would meet your above requirement. From there, lenses can be added.

Yes, 24-105 for travel.
Yes, 24-70L for journalism.
Yes, 85/1.8 for indoor sports.
Yes, Sigma 20/1.8 for indoor like restaurant shots.

Are you going be doing full frame (FF) like a 5D or 1.6x crop like a 30D?

Hi, yeah im planning to get a FF maybe when some cam replaces the 5d... im on the 24-105's side but i've heard on better sharpness, distortion and vignetting on the 24-70?
A lot of people told me that IS don work... but it seems to be working good on my 70-200...

IS works fine but it won't stop action. It works for static objects, not moving objects. You need high ISO and wide lenses for light gathering purposes but yes, IS does work very nicely.

I find that one needs to put together a full featured, multi set of lenses. In my case, just another artist, my full kit can run 6-10 lenses or more as necessary.

For photojournalism, I'd go with 24-70L and 70-2002.8L IS.

A lighter kit, FF, would be a 24-70L and an 85/1.8.

cool. i will surely carry my 70-200 IS no matter wat. So do you think 24-70 will surely kick out the 24-105? cause my plan was a 24-105mm on a 5D and the 70-200 on the 30d so i'll get 112mm- 3++mm. So i'll have it covered only a small gap on the 105-112 so wat do you think?

The standard for PJ work are the 24-70L and the 70-200/2.8L IS.

As to small gaps, they're more a mental gap (psychological) then a real gap.

What you'd need to concern yourself with is shutter speed to stop movement. In sports, you're needing 1/250 to 1/500 sec to get good stop action shots.

cool. i think i'll go for the 24-70 now.. after hearing from someone that the 24-105's sharpness is down + the vignetting...
