Folks, the rumor hype is getting out of hand, and we're making a Command Decision. From now until eternity (approximately the date of Photokina or not-so-shortly thereafter ), all rumor-related (and 'want', 'need', 'request', 'price speculation', etc.) posts shall be posted here, in this thread, not in their own, often redundant thread. Please note that knowingly 'false' inofrmation or rumors should not be circulated for the 'fun' of it.

Any separately-posted rumor threads will be deleted, so get them in the right spot, people.

Carry on.

Jeff
FM.com Moderator

PS: FredMiranda.com is in no way advocating nor lending credence to anything that appears below; I am simply trying to keep the forum organized during this 'busy' time of year. Buyer beware.

Great idea, Jeff!

I think there might be a 3000D and maybe a 1DsMKIIN (a 1DsMKII with a larger LCD and some other minor tweaks).

Haha yes I agree. Thanks for dedicating ONE thread for a many-sided topic

The rumor is you are going to allow multiple threads on this topic after Labor Day...

Great -- well let me be the first to carry over the fun (and I think plausible) rumor set that has been much discussed in one of those threads:

1] a merged 1D, 18.5 mp, 5 fps - 10 mp 8.5 fps digic 3. looks like current 1D

2] a 5D update or camera looking like a 5D, 6 fps, improved autofocus, digic 3. same sensor as 5D.

3] 100-400 4L - improved IS

4] 35 1.8

5] 400 5.6 IS

I think Pixel Perfect's 3D specs are very interesting. I won't be surprised is something closed to that was released at Photokina.

Rumors for a 3D have been around now for several years. I don't think there will be a 3D soon.

I predict much bellyaching when Canon doesn't produce what the internets knows they should produce.

It's gonna suck wide-open - but it's going to suck light, for a change

I heard a rumor that in spite of his tough exterior, our moderator Jeff is really a "softie" that has been known to open doors for women at times and to actually sit all the way through a romantic comedy movie once in a great while. However, under a strict NDA from his significant other, I am not allowed to say where I heard this.

Seriously...the merged 1D specs quoted earlier in this thread seem to line up with some of Canon's earlier public comments. If such a camera were to show up and IF it were priced below the $5k mark, I would certainly consider buying one.

The Canon pronouncements are the merger of the 1-series. Most have been speculating that wouldn't come until next Spring, and we'd see a 1Ds2n this time. But the speculation also put the merged camera at 21-24 mp. That's one of the reason the 18 mp rumor sounded plausible for this time -- it gives
Canon room for one more boost, in a year and a half or so, before they hit the wall in the mp race.

But $5k sounds like dreaming to me. I'd guess 6.5 minimum, 7.5 max.

I've been holding out for the 1.6 camera with 1-series autofocus for my bird photography, but now I'm guessing that won't happen. More likely a 5D upgrade with faster fps and improved autofocus. I may have to pull the trigger on the 1-series -- my shoulder's hurting already!

I heard around the water cooler that Jeff has the true inside scoop about the new cameras and to control the rumors he was going to force all the rumors to be posted in one location so he could keep an eye on the information leaks.

How about creating a separate forum for all things rumors only? This way, it would be out of this forum altogether.

True, but then imagine the Canon vs. Nikon battles going on there: just imagine, 1D3 (or whatever) rumors next to D3H (or whatever)

If the 400L /5.6 IS arrives it is overdue and will sell like crazy. The 35 /1.8, why is what I'm asking if it's true? The 35L /1.4 is fantastic, but does it make the 35 /2.0 look so bad we need a 35 /1.8? The rumored 50L /1.2 seems likely and very wanted, I'll buy one ASAP if it shows up Merged 1D possible, but at the rumored price it seems to be alienating many potential 1DMkll owners.Maybe two versions will arrive but have similair builts to lower manufacturing costs. Maybe, one aimed at sports / action shooters and one at the high end market. And again the 3D will fail to show light of day, despite the fact that alot of us want it.
