As far as new lenses go, I think Canon realizes that they would seriously piss off 95% of their customers if they released a new body that required people to change their sig lines.

A wide spectrum sensor that can record the IR and UV sides of the visible light spectrum? Imagine taking a RAW shot, and then going in being able to choose if you want to export the IR image or the visible light image? Or being able to the use the IR data as a lightmap or specular map (I'm a 3D guy too) for the visible light image?

That would be legendary.

You can't put them all on the same plane of focus.

I really really want to see a EOS 3D soon! My 20D has taken alot of punishment this winter and I really would a weather sealed camera. I am thinking of getting a 1D2n or mayby a 1Ds2 (Used) but a EOS 3D (Either FF or APS) would be something I would buy if Canon decides to release it!!

Note to self...don't buy a used 20D from EOS20...no matter the discount!

I don't think we will have a new mount. If canon did that, then it would be an excuse to change companies... Nikon Sony... lots of others bangin at the door...

Following the past, I would expect Digic III and a new 1.6 camera.
Bigger sensors take longer to master...

Can't tell from the hebrew but what if "Legend" actually is the name? As in "The new Canon Digital Legend. The Worlds first sub $500 8MP DLSR, yada, yada, blah".

I'm thinking its something at the top end of the market. Like a fast full frame beast.

Just guessing though

I expect Canon will introduce its lowest priced DSLR yet, and for the top end, something I will find very interesting, but I'm not sure what it will be. The product cycle timing is ripe for both the 1Ds series and the 350D XT to be overhauled (18+ months). The 5D and the 30D and the 1D Mark IIn will not be overhauled because it is too soon in their cycles. However, there will be innumerable people who will moan that Canon didn't do anything for them and the new thing at the top end, whatever it is, isn't exciting enough, etc. I also expect the unexpected, possibly a few really new lenses, simply because people aren't expecting something like that, but I really don't know and am engaging in the same useless round of idle speculation as 99.99 percent of the people posting on this inconsequential but entertaining topic in the many photography forums on the web. Inconsequential because all the speculation in the world will have zero value the instant Canon announces the real products.

Peope like Paul Pope, who has advance rumour of the new camera, have already decided to sell all his 1Ds's, a few month ago.

Hi, are there nice nature reserves to photograph nature and wild birds in Israel?

well the ad seems to be an allusion to the ads for star wars episode 1. if that's the case, and we're supposed to draw some analogy or reconstruct their thinking here: then the "legend" is something that already exists and we're familiar with, like the 1dsmk2, and the "beginning" is probably something at the low end of the series.

but who knows. anyway, i still think its a hoax. the ad isn't even hosted on canon's site.

I'd argue that current tech precludes it happening. Lenses are about as generally good as can be at the moment in a practical sense. Certainly tunable for minor improvements but certainly no quantum leaps are coming until, or if, fluid lenses are practical.

depends on what one is improving: DO is still in its infancy and is an improvement in size and weight, although some would argue that there's more to be done in IQ. IS is a quickly evolving technology - compare the IS of the 70-200 and the 70-300 e.g.

canon could use an ef-s 30/1.4.

Come on you know deep down you really want it!

I doubt I could sell it even if I wanted to, I rekon I will end up wearing it out before I got around to ever selling it.

Come on people you are all missing the forest for the trees. There is only one thing they are talking about.

Here is part of a leaked document that's come into my possession:

Introducing the revolutionary EOS 3D.

Built from the ground up to represent the new face of digital imaging the EOS 3D will represent a breakthrough in high performance yet affordable photography. Featuring an elegant yet supremely functional design it takes the best of Canon's previous designs and enhances the experience even further. A high performance AF system featuring 27pt of which 11 are x-type down to f/4 while and the centre point is cross-type to f/5.6 and allows AF down to f/11. The AI servo performance has been significantly improved too, exceeding that of the 1D Mk II.

Also Canon proudly brings ECF to the digital era and is greatly enhanced in performance over that found in the Elan 7NE.

However, the true revolution lies in the heart of the camera. Packing an amazing 13.3MP into an APS-H sized sensor the images are processed by a new DIGIC III engine. The next generation DIGIC III Image Processor builds on the legendary abilities of the digic II with double the processing power necessary to deliver unprecedented levels of resolution, speed and dynamic range. Despite the EOS 3D having smaller pixels than the EOS 5D, the DIGIC III provides even greater DR, more accurate colour rendition improved WB and lower noise. ISO 50 and 3200 are now part of the standard ISO settings and ISO 25 and 6400 are now included as an expanded option. Also it further reduces power consumption allowing class leading battery performance.

Thanks to DIGIC III the EOS 3D also boasts an impressive burst rate of 6fps for 18 shots in RAW and 40 in jpg.

In addition the body adds several sealing gaskets to the all magnesium shell allowing for operation in more extreme environments. A new evaluative algorithm allows more accurate metering in extreme lighting and can even correctly expose subjects like snow. Also a 2.4% spot meter allows for precise metering of any part of the scene. The viewfinder shows an impressive 98% of the scene both horizontally and vertically. Also for the first time Canon will be employing 2.75" OLED display screen, offering superior resolution, brightness and power consumption to LCD screens and having markedly better performance in bright daylight.

Whayne has just perfectly described the wet dream of all of us 20/30D and 1D2 owners. But sadly that's all it is...

I am not sure to well understand. Please pardon me if I don't get the joke in it, but is the document you are talking about real or just a funny stuff?

Cheers.

Funny stuff, what do you mean funny stuff. I read it and did not once laugh. It's too technical to be funny.

I meant something you invented for joking; speculations. It seems pretty serious and technical, it's why I didn't understand if it was a joke, or some
true documents you could have found, do you see?

Cheers.
