Every legend has a beginning

"Every Legend has a beginning" do they mean Mark II Ds. The Mark II Ds seems right now like the very best SLR so it could be refered as a legend so a new Mark II Ds would start a new begninning. Unless its a totally new sensor, Digic chip etc...nobody is expecting.

Who is not expecting Digic III and a new sensor?

After the 30D, all I can say is, " 'bout time"!

i highly doubt the new Nikon (D80) will really be anything worth talking about. Hopefully this new "Legend's beginning" will be what we've all been waiting for, in some form or another.

The new Nikon looks to be a D70 replacement--hardly earth-shattering stuff. Canon sure is talking a big game on this one, calling it a "legend" and whatnot. You gotta hand it to them--that's a very intriguing mini-teaser.

August 24th is when Hurricane Andrew hit, I know, I live in Miami.

Canon is known to be working on a native sensor that starts at a much higher ISO. For lower ISO work you would use ND filters. ISO 800 to 6400 is the word. What type of body they would put it in, I don't know. I hope this is that project.

That sounds very promising. Throw in a pellicle mirror, and you've got something.

It's not as though Photokina is unexpected.

I thought Photokina comes in October, not August. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected, and this is all very boring and dull.

But if I'm right about the date, here's an explanation: Canon was going to be rolling a lot of stuff out at Photokina, but Nikon put up its teaser campaign on its sites for what is supposed to be the D80. Canon may have moved up the grand premiere of whatever it has because it doesn't want to let Nikon have anything over it.

I'd say the safe bet is Canon will release something we can't already buy Beyond that who knows, but we all have our wishlist of "If Canon would only make a ...".

I hope it's something good enough that will stop my boredom of 35mm digital at the moment. It better be 16 bit gosh darnit.

It's a canon with a Nikon mount.

September 26th to October 1st. Releases usually trickle out before that already, though.

And so, it seems like a hoax for me!
Should they anticipate their teser just because Nikon has his own one on a 1st price DSLR ?....Tstst, no.

well, examining the html source, kinda looks like the "teaser" is hosted on the d-spot site as well. smells hoaxy to me too.

They are very big and very respectable site. They are the Israeli equivalent of DPR. This is not a hoax.

Well, if it's "legendary" then it must be a new 1-series camera. What else could it be? Then again, what else were we expecting?

Well,if I were going to hype something new like that it would have to be a totally new sensor that kicks digic II's butt, or a new body, like a 3D -- a weather sealed smaller 1 series between a 1dmkIIn and a 5D.

Of course marketing folks probably would hype the upgrade from the 1DmkII to the 1DmkIIN as "legendary" as well. So who knows what to expect.

I really really want to see a EOS 3D soon! My 20D has taken alot of punishment this winter and I really would a weather sealed camera. I am thinking of getting a 1D2n or mayby a 1Ds2 (Used) but a EOS 3D (Either FF or APS) would be something I would buy if Canon decides to release it!!

hmm. "every legend has a beginning"? if that's a reference to star wars: episode 1, as it sounds, then its prolly gonna suck.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I see you're from Germany, will you be there?

I am convinced that Canon is about to change their sensor design to a layered mosaic (ala Foveon-like) that will revolutionize digital cameras. It will capture true 16 bit and will have a megapixel and resolving limit that will require a (mostly) new lens line-up. Dynamic range and increased ISO will also be drastically improved (okay, not drastically on the ISO end) and capture rates will range from 8 fps for full frame to 12 for cropped. It's going to be exciting.

No way new lenses. Canons last few new releases have been tiny incremental improvements if at all. If a new sensor required a startling development in new optics, I'd argue that current tech precludes it happening. Lenses are about as generally good as can be at the moment in a practical sense. Certainly tunable for minor improvements but certainly no quantum leaps are coming until, or if, fluid lenses are practical.
