At least canon listened and add all the features we have been asking for.

Well, definitely not the changes that makes me want to sell my five months old 20D
But glad there is a successor I can upgrade to in a year or two...

It's true, they got the iso thing right this time around. But I am underwhelmed by this replacement. I wonder what got tinkered with regarding the autofocus algos?

Any information about the lenses other than the 85L II?

That's sexy...

The list of features that attact me the most are:
ISO selectable in 1/3 stop increments
ISO visible in viewfinder
Spot metering
Folder can hold 9999 folders
11 frame RAW burst
Verticals rotated, but not on LCD
11 shot buffer for RAW (instead of 6)
Direct print button... just kidding!!

This looks pretty nice. It's like a 20Dn, with some very handy upgrades. The added features look pretty useful and make picture taking easier.

Yeah, nice..but vastly overdue.

Almost all of those are found on my 1D

I am dissapointed, but hopefully there are a couple good lenses besides the 85L II.

We will see...I am selling off 1D bodies to "downgrade" to 5D so 30D may not be a bad idea Too bad for those who are selling their 20D early before the announcement...I bet some of them are regretting letting their 20Ds go for cheap.

I always stay out of discussion about rumors and always wait for the actual announcement. I can't help but laugh out loud while reading about the 30D, almost all of the rumors and discussion about the 20D replacement have been wrong! An unexpected upgrade!

So now that this is out of the way, when does the Rebel series get an upgrade? I don't need all the features of the 30D or even the 20D, but I sure could use a larger viewfinder.

Yawn!

The buffer would be nice but I just use my 20D as a backup now anyway.

I wonder what else is in the pike?

I might be more excited if I did not already own a 20D.

Yawn. I am SO glad I've held onto my 20D. Now the new 85L... hmm

I see old 20D's going for around $800-$900 with this announcement.
See the difference between 1D2 and 1D2N? $1K for that?

Is the 17-55 2.8 coming? The 30D still has the 17-85 and the cheapo kit lens attached on the photos.

I hope that the mirror slap is quieter. This is one reason I didn't like the EOS 3. In my work this is important.

wow... unimpressive.

This deffinitly isn't worth an upgrade for many folks from the 20D although I have to wonder about the "improved" shutter durability of 100K, the rebel was rated at 50, so they saying the 20D had same durability as the rebel?

Agreed. One of the reasons I came back to the XT is because the 20D mirror slap was REALLY noticeable indoors. I bought it for the improved low-light focus, but the attention it got me everytime I snapped a photo wasn't worth the tradeoff.

30D will have rebate and discount and the price will come down to $1100 IMO. Cheaper to buy 30D than 20D.

I really don't see why everybody is so bummed about the 30D. It fixes every problem everybody ever had with the 20D. ISO in the VF, 1/3 ISO stops, deeper buffer, etc. I bet the focusing has improved to, just like the 1D2 vs the 1D2n. So it doesn't have 12mp, so what? Feel the need to go buy even bigger cards?

It may not be worth upgrading for, but there's not doubt that it's far better than the 20D for people that are just jumping into the game or switching from 300D/10D.

My thought exactly. I read that the 20D is already at 100,000

A big yawn to this update. Not really worth it for 20D users to update this unless the files can show a huge significant of cleaner files. For current 20D owners, IMHO it's wiser to wait till 2007.

No kidding. You know Canon could release a firmware upgrade to give the 20D many of these abilities, but there's no way they're going to do it.

Anyone want to be the first volunteer to try and use the 30D firmware on the 20D?
