I started having trouble with the wonderful error 99 on my MKIIN last weekend. I was out shooting a sunrise and it was around 0°. The camera worked fine for a while then started giving error 99. It would go away with a couple presses of the shutter only to return a frame or two later. Once the camera was in the sun, it worked fine. At the time, I figured it may have been temp related (even though my 10D performs flawlessly in -10° for hours at a time).
Fast forward to today...I was shooting from my warm car and would get error 99 after two frames in rapid succession. I didn't matter how the focus was set (manual, one shot, or servo), how the drive was set(single shot, high speed, or low speed), what lens was on it (tried 6 or 7 lenses on it,Tamron and Canon L ), what ISO was set, what brand of memory card was being used (tried a couple Extreme III's, a Lexar 40x and a Lexar 80x), or what battery was in it (Black Diamond and Canon).
I tried reseating the lens, reseating the battery, formatting cards, basically anything that I could think of. After going through all this, it started working right. I could repeatedly fill the buffer at high speed with no errors. I thought all was good...
I went out tonite to get some pics of a lit up "holiday" train to give some prints to my five year old nephew who loves trains. As the train was pulling in, the damn error came back and I missed the shot I wanted. It was about 33°, so it wasn't really cold out.
I don't think that it is temp related, I would expect that a pro body would function perfectly in conditions that are better than what my 10D has been through. I know about the only recourse is to send it back to Canon, but the eagles are arriving in this area and I will only have about a three week window before they move on for the winter...
At this point, I am a little upset and just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with the MKIIN...
