Some really, really nice shots in this thread. Then again, I'd expect nothing less! It's a tough decision coming up with just one image. In the end, I'll give the nod to this common loon which I shot from a canoe in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Taken with a 20D + 400 f/5.6L on Aug. 26.

Here's my best. This is a ruby-crowned kinglet taken with a 20D, 1.4x TC, 400mm f4 combo on a tripod (IS off).

Cheers,

Russ

I don't know that this is my best, but it is one of my favorites of the year. Memories of a great trip to Bosque in January... I can't wait to repeat it this coming January!

Oh my god, you shot that with the 17-85? Brave man. Well worth the risk to get this awesome shot.

I don't usually shoot very much wildlife (beyond my three boys), but I did manage to grab a few this year. This isn't my favorite, but it is the most unique shot. It was truly in the wild (while some of my better shots were from a zoo), so I'm going with this long-eared bat shot in Colorado.

There are some incredible shots posted already. Amazing to me...
JD
My boys found this bat hiding in a crevice of a boulder while camping. I shot this with Canon 20D, 100mm Macro 2.8, and a 580EX to left (off camera via cord) with a Lumiquest softbox. My lens was only 2-3 inches from the bat, which explains why he was agitated. He calmed down pretty quickly once he realized we weren't going to hurt him. This shot is much more dynamic the the calm shots.

Ok, I have to contribute as well.

This may not be the 'best' photo of the year, but it is one of my favorites. It was taken in May of 2005 just a couple of miles from my home.

As has been said a WOW series!

Here's one I took this spring....Note this is a wild gobbler in a national forest in South Carolina...not on a farm.

Taken with an Olympus E-1 and Zukio 50-200mm.

Thanks for looking,
Gene
