Anyone know where I can get $3k for my used 300D?

Paint it black and put a 5D badge on it!

Congratulations Arhi! I played with a 5D today in Sydney at a trade show. Slippped my CF card in and took some images too, but will not post them until they are available locally (I *could* have mine next week if all goes to plan! ).

Hi Rudi,

Where was the trade show where you got to play with it? I'm in Sydney too. Not planning to get a 5D anytime soon, but a quick play would be nice

Ok, I just took few (50 shots) with this camera. I will post them after a while to a new topic. Let you have some taste with 100% corners from 35mm L and 70-200 L lenses.

Sorry Guy, have 24 TS-E as my widest lens at the time, and didn't shoot any photos with it yet. If you lend me some of your wide lenses, I can shoot some sample pictures for you

I think it was MR that commented it was not as good in bright light as some of the latest LCDs on other camera brands. He did mention a brand as having great LCD technology but can't remember who.

I noticed that Canon has got rid of those stupid "dumb" Modes on the dial, Its about time!

That LCD screen looks nice too, Wonder how it performs in bright lighting conditions.

Looks like a really nice well built camera, Nice size too.

Thanks for the pics Arhi.

Can't wait till Canon replaces LCD's with OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens. I read that Kodak has started replacing LCD's with this new technology on a few of its P&S cameras (Don't ask me which models?).

The benifit of OLED Vs LCD is:

*Lower power consumption.
*Better under bright lighting conditions (easier to see)
*cheaper to produce
*and lasts longer than LCD's (Less pixel burn)

Well thats what I read anyway.....

That screen is so frigging huge! It looks abnormal compared to what I've been used to (D6-/10D/1Ds)

Yeah, in images it looks huge but when you actually use it, its humongous. The viewfinder too. Much bigger than my film camera. The shutter seemed a lot more like a 1v to me than a 10d.

I wrote my thesis on OLED's and ACTFEL devices (alternating current electro luminescent thin-film), but I haven't read a word about them since I graduated. The primary benefits that interested us at the time were the superior brightness and viewing angle compared to other flat displays. LCD's have improved a ton in that time, though.

IŽll take the next flight to Finland. There is a voice in my head saying: You want the 5D. You want the 35L. You need the 5D. You need the 35L.

See you soon :-)

Mike,

It was only a one day thing organised by a photographic equipment supplier - invitation only. (I must have spent just enough with them to get invited. ).

Don't worry - I'm told the 5D should be in the stores VERY soon! The first shipment is pretty much pre-sold though (I know! I have my name on one of them ).

I think it was SONY. My dead SONY F505v had the LCD that could be viewable under the Sun.

OK folks, I just received a call that my 5D is at the shop!

Of course, I'm at home with the cold, but I *almost* jumped in the car and went to get it. Then I thought about the peak-hour traffic on the way back, and the fact that I will be in Sydney tomorrow anyway, and reason won. I'll pick it up tomorrow!

I was first on the list, and so I have one waiting for me. My dealer was promised 10 units and received three! These things are in hot demand! (Duh! )

That is one huge LCD.

Does it make movies (with sound)?

It does not make movies as far as I know. Sorry.

Hope that your haul for 5D and 35L - and saying "See you soon" doesn't mean you'll visit me when I sleep

Good idea. As a matter of fact I was thinking of shooting some pictures with this setup this weekend. I'll post some pictures here.

Rudi I was at the same trade show and concur with your 5D assessment.

I have ordered a 1D Mark II N from them which will hopefully come in next week.

The grip looks like it has the finger indentation like my EOS 3....very comfortable.

Does it have the smooth-action shutter release (like an EOS 3), or the cheaper push halfway then click like the 20D, rebel, etc.?

I want full frame and a 1 series body.......too bad the only answer to that question costs about $8000

I'm with you Man, I'm compromising with the "N".

It's a long time for me when I tried out 20D or rebel (or such), but I would describe 5D's shutter release quite smooth. No additional clicks or feel it would be a little loose.
