There's a lot of rumors going around. Some say there will be an annoucement sometime this August (even next week). I'm not even going to guess what the specs are, there's so many possibilities. I'm looking forward to it though, whatever it is. |

Personally I think you guys are kidding yourself if you think it is going to be full frame. That would leave a single model utilizing the EF-S lenses which Canon said will be supported for at least 5 more years PLUS why the heck would they undermine their big ticket items that they are getting between $5-8K for as well? Simply doesn't make sense to me business wise (re: money) nor does it fit into a 20D replacement spot in the lineup going FF. I think honestly if anything, it will still be 1.6 to support EF-S lenses, perhaps a boost in resolution up to 10-12 Meg, $2500 sounds about right pricewise to me, maybe even closer to $2000. Probably have a built in battery grip as well. Guess we can see how it shakes out though when the announcement is made. I personaly think a lot of people that are hoping for FF are going to be disappointed though. |

I agree with Jason. I'll be shocked if this is FF. Thrilled, but shocked. |

If it's not priced around $1500, it is not a replacement for the 20D. I hope that information does not turn out to be true, 20D prices may climb instead of drop if that is the case. |

I also agree with Jason, it just doesn't seem logical, unless this "new" camera is meant to fill a spot between the 1d mk2 and the 20D. In that case I could see it being a 1.3x camera. |

Rebel line is up to 8MP. Seems reasonable to move the 20D line up to (say) 10MP at 1.6x. If Nikon can do 12MP at 1.5x, I guess Canon can do that easy. |

They're not going to replace the 20D with a full-frame $3000 camera. They may replace it with a 1.6X 11 mpx camera of similar price. |

Good grief, why don't we just pin one of these threads and rename it "The interminable new dSLR thread"? |

in my opinion canon will replace 1d2 first. if its true that its a ff 12mp then id bet my boots it does 8fps to REALLY piss nikon off. there is no sense in upgrading the 20d when it has virtually no competition out there, however as nikon released the 2dx then the 1d2 seems much more likely for upgrade. also the 1d2 is next in line, its been out the longest. saying that id much prefer to see 12mp in my price range cos i wouldnt upgrade for anything else. (i print big) i dont usually post in these topics but i thought i would since so many people are sick of seeing them. why read it when it obviously says "new eos" or something similar? |

Yes, I agree that the 1D M2 will be replaced shortly as Canon Australia is already offeringa AUD $1,000 rebate and it will compete with Nikon's D2x. |

If I had to guess, I would think it would have to leapfrog the Nikon offering... The logical thing to do would be replace the 1D II. In the normal cycle, it is ready to be replaced. Alternatively, i fthat is not ready yet, they could be doing a quick fix to specifically address the Nikon offering... They could take the 20d sensor and go from 1.6x to 1.0x and get a stepup ito 14mp+ |

Following what Pixel Perfect has mentioned, I guess here down under, we get the ripple effect just like we feel the effects of the US economy. |

Price point is definitely an issue I look at the current Canon DSLR lineup with some dismay really.. In Canada the 20D is about $1800 CAD. Whereas the 1DMark II is $5200 and the 1Ds Mark II is $10000 CAD!!! The price gap between the 20D and the 1D series is enormous and I really wish that Canon will fill that gap with something that would give semi-pros and advanced amateurs some more choice. |

the pentium pro was a server chip. it was never really "replaced" but just eventually rendered obsolete as the Pentium II and Pentium III chips surpassed it in speed. |

Start selling your 20D's at ebay before prices will go down drastically. As I have noticed the price of the new 20D's went down after canon's mail and rebate ended. Oh I'm so excited! A full frame camera, 12MP resolution, with vertical grip included. it must be like the 1D's and hope there will be no more build in flash, it is so unusefull because of its range. |
