I am thinking about taking Bryan Petersons courses on understanding exposure
and learning to see creatively ? I think i have a pretty good understanding of
photography but rather than spend any more money on kit i am thinking on taking
a few photography courses. The courses are done via the web and assignments are then given which are critiqued. I really liked his two books.

Anyone taken any courses they highly recommend ? Would be very interested
to here about any course in NY city that i could attend in person.

Cheers
David.

Checkout www.fitnyc.edu FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) and www.schoolofvisualarts.edu

Both schools are good and both offer non-credit classes for various photography related courses. Personaly I signed up last week for Understanding Small Camera credit class (4 credits). It costed me $574.00 and it will be held for 12 weeks, every Sunday from 9am-1pm then 1 hour break and from 2pm-6pm, basically 8 hours per day per week for 12 weeks. And the thing is that the instructor for the course is the chairperson of the photography department so I think that he isnt bad. Overall I think that this class is a great way to learn photography.

If you want to register for any FIT class then you can do it until September 3rd and you gotta walk-in in person. In addition to the course price you gotta pay $50.00 late registration fee and mandatory $25.00 technology fee (for the computer and library access). $574.00 includes ass fees and payments.

Another great class/course that I am looking for attending in the future is the Lighting For the Magazine Photographer course with Ken Shung. Here you can read more:

P.S. Hope it helped you.

Try at www.betterphoto.com not bad for short courses or www.nyip.com for longer ones ...

Hope this can help.

http://www.shootsmarteruniversity.com/index_home.html is a good site if you are looking for some serious classes . A pro friend of mine told me about it and I might take a course or two myself .

I took a course at betterphoto.com and it was OK but not great. It is hard to shoot exactly what the assignment is at the time that it is due. The critiques were again OK, but short.
Consider taking a photo workshop. I just went on my first one and had a fantastic time, learned a lot, went to a beautiful place to shoot with like minded people, and came back with images I am really proud of. Of course you need a block of time and would have to travel. I went to the John and Barbara Gerlach Summer Workshop in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I liked it so much I am going back to their Fall Color Workshop in the same place in October. I am sure there are lots of good workshops in various venues of photography out there if nature imaging is not your thing.
