Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting images, but wanted to share a few captures from the solar eclipse in Cairns, Australia this morning. These were taken from our deck. I'm reasonably happy with what I achieved considering it was my first attempt at photographing the sun and the cloud cleared about 30 sec prior to totality - v. lucky.

Canon EOS 5D MkIII, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, Canon Extender EF 2x III, homemade Baader filter.

Eclipse 1

Eclipse 2

Eclipse 3

Regards,

Dave.

Great shots Dave. Hope to see the same thing here in a few years.

Your's was a total solar eclipse unlike our ring of fire solar eclipse earlier this year.

Did it get very dark? I had gone down to Monument Valley area for ours earlier this year. It was an exciting phenomena, although it did not get as dark as I hoped. My picture looked like an egg...

Thanks for the comments. ckcarr, yes it did get rather dark, and very quickly. It lasted a couple of minutes and we could actually see some stars.
