How bad is Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ZE Planar?

here's my question:

Those pictures taken at f/1.4 they all look good at these sampled sizes, but how about if I print them say at 12 x 18 or larger, will they render the same subject sharpness and subject pop?

I suspect that they only look good on small resolution pics but not on large prints. I could be wrong.

As long as its C/Y 50/1.4 you are wrong. Not sure about newer..

The newer, which the thread title refers to, is definitely not that sharp for closeups. They are obviously not the same optical design.

I don't know, the specs are pretty damn close to me, and my C/Y 50 1.4 has a bit of resolution drop off up close as well

Dont get your point. Specs is not very interesting, real world shots are.
