Here's the thread about fall themes photographed with Canon equipment.
Hopefully, this will again offer a little oasis/shelter from the din of forumography.

The important thing is to specify the equipment you have used in the production of your posted images. Since this is a gear forum, please do not be shy to discuss gears and associated techniques at length.

In Southern Ontario, leaves are just starting to turn yellow on weaker trees/shrubs, and there are some signs of bird migration as well. The days are noticeably shorter now, and no more oppressive humidity/haze in the air.

Thought this was another "Bad Canon! " thread from the title.

Everyone on the beach went south, except...

Jerry, it almost looks like only losers use inferior Canon cameras these days.

Handheld 1DX + 400 f/2.8 IS MkI. ISO 500, f/2.8. 1/500 sec, no pp/NR, only resized for web posting.

1DX yields the most vibrant colours, although the scene is very colourful too, and the light was perfect for colour intensifying. Every time I post process an image I am tempted to desaturate it a bit, like I did on the first image posted.
No doubt, in 1DX Canon have changed the in-camera JPG processing in a major way, and I still haven't optimised my JPGs.

Too catchy and it would have attracted a bunch of whiners that would have thought it would be another thread they could have..... well, whined even more. I will post some pictures of fall, uh, autumn colors about two weeks from now.

Here's one taken over the weekend. Had a nice bush changing to set up as the background for the Green Heron.

Taken with a 1d Mark III, 400mm 5.6 + 1.4 II teleconverter.

5D3 at 700mm, handheld.

I am going down..

I try really hard to avoid backlit target photography because I do not use flash of any type. However, there are times when one just can not walk around an appealing target. Then there are only two choices one has: walk away or attempt to arrive at some sort of a compromise exposure which could be enhanced in photoshop afterwards.
What caused some additional trouble in this image was the water surface reflecting brightly some yellow folliage.

No color change in the trees here, though today's rain may signal cooler times are coming...as temps drop a little, early fall is the time for festivals of all kinds; musical, historical, and even next weekend's "Southern Fried Festival", spotlighting (you guessed it) fried...everything...

Here's a couple from the "Step Back in Time" festival at a small local state park...both were made with the 80-200 f/2.8L, as I wanted to be stealthy and unobtrusive...

Autumn also brings foggy mornings on the river; herons were caught from the kayak with a 400mm DO...

What a good start. I am glad to see Jerry post a very different, yet absolutely great, vision of Great blue herons, so I shall go into another extreme. The same bird individual, the same gear, but different light as well as background.
