Lightroom 4.2 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 are now available as a Release Candidate versions on Adobe Labs.

Both Camera Raw 7.2 RC and Lightroom 4.2 RC include tools to recover image sensor data typically lost when shooting in a camera crop mode. They also added support for newly released cameras like the Canon Rebel T4i, Canon EOS M, Nikon 1 J2, Pentax K3 among many others.

Took a long time to download Lightroom 4.2--over an hour. I saw the notice on facebook. Looks like the put both the 32- and 64-bit versions in the download. 750 MB. I'm installing it now.

For me, it took much shorter -- < 7 mins. It pays to be a later comer to the download

Wait, why does Lightroom say my software is up to date? I recently got the software and am not sure if I need to manually update this.

It's beta, won't automatically update.

Somehow I just don't trust Adobe that everything will be fine if I decide to revert back.

By default, the Lightroom 4.2 release candidate for Windows will remove or overwrite your existing Lightroom 4 installation. If you wish to return to Lightroom 4 after installing Lightroom 4.2, simply reinstall Lightroom 4 from your original download after uninstalling Lightroom 4.2 using the Windows add/remove program utility.

I think for me it is better. I was almost to the point where it was unuseable.

Is tethering speed better? The last version of LR4 was a lot slower than Canon's DPP
