Whilst all the ISO stuff is interesting technically, I think cameras are at a stage now where we can get away with most things up to 1600 - full stops or 1/3rd stops - and come away with a very clean image. At least in situations where ISO is the final concern.
Shooting aviation, we tend to worry about our shutter, then our aperture (is it stopped down so much our sensors are about to be very embarrassed!) and then we start to look at aperture. When shooting interiors, products etc, when the concern is generally aperture, cleanliness, then shutter (hooray for tripods), then this discussion starts to have very real bearings on how we set up shots.
Personally, I\'ve been thrilled with every Canon body I\'ve played with at ISO100 - I think we may be nit-picking a wee bit too much!
