Do you ever shoot or have future plans to shoot outdoor sports? If this is a possibility I\'d seriously suggest keeping the 300/2.8 for that type of work. It, paired up with a 1.4x TC, makes for a mean field and track lens. As I mentioned before I think the 1DIII would be an excellent replacement for the 5DII, that way you can keep both of your lenses (assuming you have a use for the 300). And to answer your question, yes the 1DIV should perform significantly better than the 5DII.
