I think people have a hard time understanding that modern digi SLR\'s are \"very sophisticated\" pieces of digital gear and no amount of pre release testing will cover every possible combination of circumstance..ever.
I mean i fly a 100Million USD aircraft that has been in service for 20 years and its still got problems.
People need to get used to the fact that forking out 5Grand does not nor will ever buy you a bullet proof perfet piece of gear.

Agreed. I\'m not too fussed about having firmware updates in the first few months. I trust that Canon would not release this camera with such a major f*ck up like the last one, so it should be smooth sailing.
I am quite certain that if you asked Canon users prior to the 1D-III release if they trusted Canon not to release a camera with a bad AF, they would have have said yes. Will the 1D-IV have a defective AF? Almost certainly not, but there are so many other things that can go wrong, who can really say they must have the 1D-IV so badly that they will take the risk.
Those that have pre-ordered a 1D-IV are clearly in the position of being able to accept the risk of getting a camera with a problem. That risk always exists with a new camera, regardless of the manufacturer, but with Canon\'s recent history the risk appears to be higher. I would bet that fewer pros than normal will be early adopters of the 1D-IV. That is just the nature of the market. Canon must realize this and that is why I fully expect a special customer loyalty program to be announced for the 1D-IV.
