Thanks all. I tried the Tokina on the 5D, but it does have some vignetting even at 15-16mm at f2.8, but I did have a filter on. Might try it again.
Comparing 40D and 5D, the 24-105 will be a good full frame replacement for the 17-55 IS. The FOV on the 24-105 is wider and longer than the crop lens and the 1 stop is easily made up with the better ISO performance of the 5D. Tried the 70-200 f2.8 IS, and it really comes to life on the 5D!
