Josh: Once again this is just what I have found personally over time shooting these different bodies. I think the 40D for static shooting even with its clear difference in exposure settings produces stellar images consistently and does inflights well a reasonable amount of the time, however for moving targets, especially regarding birds in flight where you need to hit and maintain focus quickly and accurately you really can\'t beat a 1 series body. If I only shot my 40D I would get used to the EC situation, and it wouldn\'t bother me as much as it does. It is a world of difference between it, and my 20D and 1D\'s.. I like my MkIIN over the MkII mainly because the LCD is easier to get an accurate view on shots being in focus.. It is a little larger, and a little brighter... Other than that there isn\'t enough of a difference to worry about... Both shoot amazing images.. If I could only have one body it would without question be a 1D. Some of my best action images were shot with the original 1D, and I would still shoot one if it had a higher resolution sensor. 4 Megapixels just isn\'t enough for some applications. I have had shots rejected for publication simply because of it, and right or wrong, I decided to upgrade for that reason alone.. Anyway.. I am just offering my opinion since you asked
Take care pal.... Good luck...
