I can understand the rationale for the editing audit trail, but you might want to instead adopt the approach used at other forums, which is to allow a new contribution to be edited by the poster for only 20 min. after posing it then locking it. That would allow sufficient time to correct any typos, grammatical errors discovered when proof reading what was written and better address the problem you are trying to prevent, radical changes of content long after posting initially.
