I started photography 4 years ago. I went with Canon from the start. Nikon surely has great sensor in their FF, but 5D and 5DII are what make me stay with Canon. AF is crappy but i use MF lenses anyway. For me those 2 cams are some of the best value DSLR in the market.

Tamron 28-75 (my first 2.8 zoom. image quality is quite good for the price)
Canon 35L (sold it but regret it)
Zeiss 35mm F2 ZF (i really like it, but sometimes need the 1.4 aperture. sold it and get 1.4/35 ZE)
Canon 50 1.8 II (my first lens, the one that made me fall in love with primes)
Canon 50 1.4 (bought 3 times, sold 3 times. build quality is poor)
Canon 85 1.8 (sold it for 85L. contrast is not that great compared to the L counterpart)
Canon 100 2.8 Macro USM (sold it because too long and lack of use)
Canon 135L (the first lens that made my jaw drop. sold it for 70-200 f2.8 L IS)
Canon 24-105 L IS (bought it cheap in craigslist. sold it and got profit)

Zeiss 1.4/35 ZE (one of my fav lens so far. focusing could be hard sometime)

Zeiss 2.0/50 MP ZE (my best 50mm lens so far)
Zeiss 2.0100 MP ZE (very sharp! bokeh is also very smooth)
