One of these days, the 100-400L II will finally be released. It\'s been rumored to be announced at every Photokina event since 2002! 
It would but fat chance it happening. A 500/5.6 IS would sell for around $4,000. A 400/5.6 with IS would cost half that and a pound lighter!
I hope the Sony threat will carry over to a refreshed fast 135 prime.
