You doubt the practicality of shooting 2 bodies simultaneously, or of not having the midrange between 105 and 24 covered? Possible solutions would be carrying a 50 to swap with either the 24 or 105 as the situation changes, or trade the 105 for the new 85/1.8 and mount that on the D800, a combo which you can crop if need be and still have similar resolution to the 105 on the D700.
