This is a fabulous set of pics, esp the calf framed by the mother in No 7.

However, I am disturbed (as was my Zimbabwean friend) that your guide allowed you to get sufficiently close to a mother with a young calf to cause her to feel that her calf was threatened.

In defence of the guide I am advised by my friend that guides Africa wide, often find them selves under pressure from their clients to get that little bit closer than their experience and knowledge suggests is optimal.

I am in no way suggesting that this was anything other than a chance encounter but observing and photographing animals in the wild is about observing them in their natural state, not getting in so close (especially a mother with a calf) that you provoke them

Sorry. IMO that you were sufficiently close to cause stress to the mother and your guide didnt get you out of that situation instantly is not acceptable behaviour. Observing and photographing animals in the wild is about observing them in their natural state, not getting in so close (especially a mother with a calf) that you provoke them
