Hello to all;
I've just buyed a Sig 10-20mm and here is my 'first look':
Build quality : Good.Classic Sigma lens body style&hood.Actually it is lot better than my firend's Tamron 11-18mm(I'am using his Tamron time to time).Smaller then the Nikkor&Tokina 12-24's.Focus ring is a little firm but not much.
Lens hood: Nice size&quality. It is slightly bigger&better than the Tamron also smaller then the Tokina&Nikkor 12-24's.
Size&weight :Excellent!
What inside the box : A very nice padded Sigma case, warranty card&ins.manual, lens hood+cap.
(No AF/MF switch for the Nikon mount version)
Performance : HSM motor is very fast&silent. It is almost instant like a prime lens!. The front element does not rotate during use. (Good for filter's)77mm filter size.AF performance is near excellent.(At least for me)
I bealive chromatic aberrations have been well controlled and I can't find any evidence of pf on extra shiny/metal object's or on the backlighted tree's.
This is the sharpest extra wide zoom lens that I have.It is slightly sharper than my Tokina and my friend's Tamron.Color reproduction is good.Maybe just a little on the warm side(If I have to compare against the Nikon-Tokina)Edge to edge sharpness is good for a lens this wide .At 15/16 mm it's a little soft at the edges but centre is still very good .Around 10-12mm the edges have improved again. It is good @ F4 starting to improve around F5.6 and excellent around F8(Not thested the F11 and up yet) Around 10-20mm I bealive no distortion there but @ 20mm end did have a little pin cushioning.
Also I do bealive this lens have's a little light fall off or very little vignetting (Much lower than the 18-70 kit lens)around 10mm but I am not %100 sure yet.(Maybe it's my error or the hood couse this but it is not problematic)
Zooming extends the lens length by a tiny 4-5 mm.
It is a keeper for me
Here is a few samples (Sorry about the bad samples.I'll post much better photos in a close future)
D2X handheld,straight fine jpeg,Sigma 10-20mm iso 200 and up.No image adjusment's (Resizing for the web with PS)
My brother seems to think that this lens produces the same results as a fisheye....which I tried to explain that I didn't think so. Now seeing your images, I can definately tell that it doesn't.
Am I right? My brother (who is older) asked me why i would want this lens.

A fisheye is different, in that it isn't corrected for distortion like a rectilinear is.
Your brother must think that the exxagerated perspective means it's a fish
Mert, thanks for this! Weren't you shooting with a 12-24 or am I confusing you with someone else If you are/were, can you 'feel' the 2mm difference at the wide end? This Sigma looks like it will be a fine lens.
Hey Jack thank's
You are right I'am shooting with the 12-24's ( Tokina&Nikkor. But I sold the Nikkor after I buyed the Tokina ) I have to confess that the reason I chose this Sigma is the extra 2mm advantage on the wide end but it is simply not a big difference that I tought. I'll post side by side shot's with both lenses @12mm and 10mm .I think I'll have some free time tomorrow after work.I want to play with my new toy's &wanna find a train
Thanks a lot, I've been looking for these as I'm considering buying this lens over the Tokina 12-24... and you are almost convincing me.
Do you have a regular polarizer (like a regular Hoya) to test with it? I would just want to know if it vignettes at 10mm... if you could do that I would be very thankful. :-)
Octavio thank's I'll test it with the slim wide cp filter and let you guy's now .Btw:Regular cp's wont work.(Like the regular Hoya or other brand)I have 2 slim fit filter's.Sigma&Nikkor 77mm cp's.
I would love to see the 10-20 vs 12-24 comparison shots. I'm also in the process of convincing myself I need to save the extra money and get the 10-20. Here in the UK the Sigma is £150 cheaper than the Canon 10-22!
