There is a potential problem with doing this conversion. These mounts come in different thicknesses so that the lens can be adjusted to specification. How can you be sure that you are getting the same thickness mount fron the donor lens?
I could be wrong but if you read other articles on EFS lens conversions to suit the 10D, D30 and D60, some people have already tried using different Canon lens rear mounts but it would appear that the screw hole positioning was different on some of them.
On the face of it, it appears that the 24-85 mount ring and black section just screw on to the 10-22 which would make this conversion potentially very easy and, to a degree, reversible.
Theoretically, possibly a more sophisticated and safer option than limiting the movement at the front of the lens is to add a spacer under the mount at the back of the lens mount. If successful, this would make the conversion fully reversible. (Other threads on the 18-55 have sometimes had to use spacing rings to stop the 18-55 touching the mirror - this does not seem to apply to all 18-55 lenses, only some)

The problem with this approach is that you will have shifted the focal plane for the lens forward with the introduction of a spacer.
