Well.... I just had a rather disappointing conversation with Canon. My EF200/1.8 has been acting up for a while. It auto focuses fine but focus jumps around wildly when trying to manually focus. So I finally call Canon in Irvine last week and spoke to a tech. He confirmed that the lens is still being repaired. So $65 later it's on it's way via FedEx.
Not hearing anything I decided to call them today. They tell me the lens is already on its way back to ME via FedEx... unrepaired. Reason ? "Outside service period".
Not that it would have changed the outcome but I don't understand why they didn't contact me. I left 3 different phone numbers and my email.
I called back again to complain and they now inform me that Canon has stopped repairing this lens 2 months ago. GREAT.
So I'm $65 poorer and my lens had a nice FedEx trip two times across country.

RIGHT! It was based on those threads that I specifically contacted IRVINE and got confirmation that the lens WAS repairable.
As I'm typing this the FedEx guy delivered my lens back to me. I originally sent it to Canon in a styrofoam-lined box that contained the lens trunk like a second skin. They sent it back to me in a new box surrounded by crumpled paper.
Do you have a list for the EAST coast? I live in PA and of course I only sent the lens to IRVINE because IRVINE confirmed they were still repairing them.

Thanks
Don't have the east one but Doug is the Irvine super and he sent me away last week to be sent to the Tustin center for my repairs.

I called H&K in Tustin. They also confirm parts may not be available and all they can offer is to send the lens and then they will tell me if it can be repaired. Great... another $65 and trans-continental plane ride just to see if it can be fixed.
I think I'm going to keep using the lens as I have been all along and forego the manual focus. It's served me well this long. In the end it will make an interesting paperweight on my desk.
