The optical read for the six bit coding is cool, but I'm pretty sure the focus assist will work whether your lens is coded or not. I prefer to control the digital zoom myself, but I can see where that would be handy for someone who likes using it, or even likes using it sometimes and turning it off other times.
In other news...
I picked up a Minolta MC W.Rokkor-HG 35/2.8 on the bay for $40. Not a spectacular price for the lens, but it looks close to new, and you can never have enough 35s.

The OM 24/2.8 is fairly well known to be sharp across FF.
I just picked up one of these; it should arrive tomorrow. Too bad I have nothing to use it on except an OM-4Ti... I wonder if you can still get slide film developed anywhere in Alberta?

that's a pretty sweet and compact combo, you can always just get it developed by mail.

Hey Cliff. I think Vistek still develops slide film....

A friend of mine who transitioned from Alpha to shooting medium format gave me his Mamiya 645 to Alpha adapter, so I bought a 120/4 Mac to mount on it. I guess I should be happy he'd already sold off all of his other MF adapters.
I've never used the lens, so I'm excited to see how it stacks up against the Elmarit 100 APO, but if it doesn't offer any significant advantage, I'll probably try to trade it off for a 150/2.8.

The Vistek lab here in Calgary was probably the worst lab in western Canada when it came to E-6... so even if they were still in business, I would never consider using them.

I've been keeping my eye open for one of these for a while... missed 2 of them over the last year or so, so I was please to get this, albeit a little beaten up. http://ic2.pbase.com/o9/63/551663/1/151313683.IVq3g2YB._DSC1268.jpg
It's the Nikon SL version of the CV 15mm Heliar. To mount it in a Nikon SLR you must lockup the mirror, but for Nex this is not needed of course. The reason for getting this version is to slap it on a shift adapter.. presto a 21mm FOV shift lens http://ic2.pbase.com/o9/63/551663/1/151313621.KFuk6YHD._DSC1459.jpg
It will shift 8m before nudging the inside opening of this shift adapter, but that's probably enough. There a boatload of colour shift of course (and this image needs a bit work on it) but it's a pretty unique combo.

...still, it is convenient on a Nikon...if I had a NIkon...
I have the Canon 70-210mm/3.5-4.5 EF that is lighter and as sharp and has AF...THAT'S convenient
...but I do like MF...
Based on the excellent performance of my Fuji Photo EBC 35/2.8 and 50/1.4, M42, I expect this will be smarter than the average bear.
My interest has lately focused on Fujinons as well.Yestarday I bought EBC 28/3.5+55/1.8+135/3.5 plus "plain" Fujinon 55/1.8.All with M42 mounts (Yashica and Fujica film bodies added).
Now I have to find some more space for growing numer of unwanted film cameras.

This guy came in today for my Fuji. I have to shoot with it more, but I think I might need to exchange it, as I think it's decentered (right edge seems noticeably softer than the left edge in the few shots I've taken). Either way, I'll have it...hope I don't need to send it back. I really like the different fisheye projection it has vs. other fisheyes. Edit: I've done some testing, and while the DOF allows me to work around it, there's definitely some misalignment of the focal plane going on, so I've initiated an exchange. Surprisingly, it looks like Amazon cross ships on exchanges, so it says I'll get my replacement lens tomorrow, and I need to return the original by August 23. Nice!
