I do, as you know. To give you an idea, I'm selling both of them because I'm tired of constantly stopping the aperture down manually. I don't mind manual focus but the manual stop down thing is a real pain. Otherwise, the ZS lenses are exactly similar to the ZE/ZF, meaning outstanding performance. From the IQ point of view, I was impressed with all 3 of them (25, 35, 50). I use Kindai/Rayqual high quality adapters, unchipped and expensive, but there are so many cheap options on the evilbay. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask
hey Edwardkaras, just the person I wanted to talk to. I am having trouble finding a Sony 50mm, made in Japan. (it was your advice that I get a copy made in Japan, not China) so started thinking about Zeiss ZS.
When u mention "stopping the aperture down manually" are u speaking of more than just selecting aperture with the ring on the lens?
I know u say the Sony 50 is very sharp, don't imagine lens build equals that of Zeiss?? what about other factors and how the 2 lenses compare? thanks again for all your info joanlvh
Well, I know someone at get dpi who ordered a made in japan copy from BH. Build quality is no match to the Zeiss. The Sony is made of plastic. IQ wise the Zeiss is also better but the differences are not dramatic, especially stopped down. The Zeiss is more usable wide open with less veiling haze, coma, and larger sharp area than the Sony. The Sony does have some 3D but it has the soft contrast typical of Minolta.
Manually stopping down involves opening the aperture all the way for focusing then setting the desired aperture to take the picture. Usually if you're shooting at 2.8 or wider this is not necessary as it possible to focus at this aperture.
Also this is a good trick with the addition of a Tilt Transformer adapter from Lensbaby I can also use the Zf.2 on a GF! and you can choose to tilt or keep it straight.
