Well it links to my reviews. I'm damn proud of my reviews, and I don't think they are meaningless.
That's exactly what I did when I posted to FB. I changed their link to a link to my reviews. I only have 5, but their decent reviews. Funny thing is I only have the WW reviews because I needed some third party reviews to be accepted as a vendor on another site. They specifically mentioned WW as a source of those third party reviews. My listing on that site has links to my site and to my WW reviews.
I'd say the reviews themselves (being that they're from actual clients of mine) definitely carry some weight with prospective clients that see them. The "award" from WW may help as far as reaching FB fans, but I doubt it's going to have that much influence over whether a client books or not...

I absolutely agree. I have 18 reviews, so far, all perfect 5s. I have received so many compliments on that in initial inquiries. They don't mention the award, just what people are saying. I think they carry a lot more weight then when photographers just post a page on their website of random quotes when people have no reason to believe you didn't write them yourself.
Is wedding wire's "research" to find the top 5% of professionals the most accurate? Of corse not... but it's showing photographers that had clients that were happy enough with their services to write something nice about them, and that's not meaningless or worthless imo.
I'm advertised on Wedding wire and pretty pissed off about this.
We have been with wedding wire since March of last year, have 21 positive legitimate reviews of 5 stars, and NADA.
I see others who have 3-5 reviews and are not even advertising there, have less time being there, their work is not up to our caliper, and they already have some reviews.

What the crap?
I don't think I'd pay to advertise on a site like that. I guess depending on where you're located it can make sense. When you live in an area with 8 million stories and 4 million of those are from wedding photographers, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.....not when there are at least 200-300 photogs on there that are within a 45 minute drive.

They already HAVE your money. No need to entice you.
Yup, this blows...and I've also heard that other photogs have advertised for a few hundred bucks less than we did, and when we tried to negotiate that in the beginning they said their rates are non-negotiable.

Suffice it to say that every photographer I know got this. Nevertheless, if it is a benefit to me and makes my clients feel justified in hiring me or referring me I'm going to post it. I'm not too concerned about whether or not other photographers judge me, photographers don't pay my bills or derive joy from my work.
Make no mistake, internally to our industry it might be a joke, but if someone else finds meaning from it far be it from me to deny them that.
