Phillip, I always look forward to your work. Really good stuff. You handle shooting into the light really well and really seem to get a ton of range out of your images. Thanks for posting.

Phillip,

Great set as usual. You make the 135 Minolta look better than I have ever seen it.

How did everyone ignore srhphoto's eagle and owl shots? Great stuff, among many others!

@Phillip - Did you see these from my new FDn 24/2.8?
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/969329/528#11373765
And the following page for a couple of night shots. From first impressions it seems to be great, sharp with good colour, saturation and contrast, like most FDn primes. Roughly the size & weight of the 35/2, feels more solid than the 28/2.8. I haven't done corner tests or anything (yet, though I may not bother!). The 24/2 is thought to be better, but for around 1/5 the price this seems like amazing value - I like cheap good lenses!

This doesn't necessarily show it off:

I'll try and post a few more from it later.

Alan

Finally, the compliment I was fishing for. ;-) But seriously, I thought that either it was a typo on your part, or you thought that I was posting about the 28/2.8, or... anyway my mistake!

I have the FDn 28/2.8 as well, and despite it being among the cheapest FDn's (along with the 50/1.8), not particularly well regarded and feeling a bit light-weight (more plastic than metal inside, I assume?) it's very good. Flare can be funky (blue blobs), prone to purple fringing, but aside from that it's very sharp and contrasty. I'm not the best to ask about subtle rendering qualities or wide open corner sharpness, aside from good central sharpness I'm not too bothered (well, that's my excuse for buying only cheap/sharp lenses!). These are from last year, edited from JPG, not RAW, old NEX-5:

But was it you who said they didn't particularly like the FDn 35/2? If so, there may be no hope for you with the 28mm or 24mm. ;-)

thanks for your explanations :-)
i didn't like what i got out of my nfd 35/2, but i like what you get out of it. so i will test the 28/2.8 and see what i can do :-).
Any opinions on nfd 70-210/4 or 100-300/5.6? i bought too much canon stuff because it was cheap

On the subject of good cheap lenses. Here are a couple of test shots from my recently acquired 135mm F:3.5 Auto- Topcor which I became aware of on this forum. I paid $24.95 on eBay.

The first shot is about a 50% crop taken through a window. at f:11 Nex5n

I didn't know it was an eagle before enlarging the cropped imaged

First shots with the Bokina around the yard.

Lovely look. Extremely sharp wide open. Bokeh is to die for! Only problem is my copy is mint....but with a broken aperture lock. I think the aperture may be wonky too. Does anyone have one and can describe the feel of the aperture ring. Mine's clicks feel a little too dampened. Rolling over a curb instead of a bump. Abrupt feel. Of course, I may be overly worried because of the broken aperture lock.

dammit, i really want a bokina now
it would probably even make sense, i have like ten 50mm lenses but only the samylux, minolta md 100/2.5 and Minolta 100/4 Macro in that range^^
Maybe i should sell the MD 100/4 to finance a Bokina? The Minolta Macro has great optics but a really high focusing resistance, which is why i rarely use it.

It was the second to last lens on my dream list. The last is the Rokkor 58/1.2. SOON!

Phillip, before your stunning photos of it, I only knew of Tenerife for being the site of the worst airline disaster. Good to see it in a different light now; gorgeous as always.

The Summaron lives up to its legendary status.Amazingly sharp WO, great color. But what i really like about it is its ability to maintain brightness in the center of the image while shutting down the shadows of the image.I do not get that with any other lens that i have now or have had in the past. Its size is very small being a Leica M lens.
