Thanks! From what I've read, the later 50/1.8 "made in Japan" serial no. 4million+ (mine) is the best. Reputed to be among the sharpest wide-open. In my experience it's excellent, nice colours, very sharp, lovely bokeh (nicer than that other budget razor Canon FDn 50/1.4). But I haven't done any formal tests.

Great Lisbon shots! I took a lot of Oriente shots with the NEX 16/2.8 last year I must dig up. Also the breathtaking Pavillion nearby, by Siza (the huge gently curving concrete sail/shade).

@Sebboh - how do you mean - did you have trouble pulling up shadows & holding down the sky? Under-exposed areas can look colourless when pulled up, but this all looks great to my eyes!

i just mean it looks a little unreal like an hdr to me, maybe it's just because i saw the original out put from the camera in which the city was very dark and the foreground was completely black.

love your second shot btw.

Sebboh: where was that first San Francisco image taken from if you don't mind me asking? That must be the other side of the peninsula, like Highway 1 side by Sunset and Richmond districts? Never seen this perspective before, but I really really like it! Great shot!

Always nice to see a San Francisco photo without the golden gate bridge in it once in a while, eh?

Our rivers are pretty much creeks, esp. with the drought! But then you should see how tiny our creeks are.

Yeah, I liked the color version after I tried it with color mode set to landscape in processing. It looked kind of bland before that. It's the first photo I've actually *liked* in landscape mode. Usually I think it makes the colors look like cat's azz.

both shots were taken a few minutes apart from different parts of UCSF's parnasus campus near the base of the mt sutro open space preserve on the eastern edge of the sunset between cole valley and twin peaks.

the perspective on the first shot is a rather difficult one to get, i had to lean over the railing on the roof of a building that has rather restricted access.

taran – fantastic shots! can't pick a favorite.

And Derek, the 28 looks fantastic!

5N + 50/1.8 OSS - plenty sharp for landscape. Nice heathery purple hillsides, after the gold leaves are mostly gone...
