For a lens to be controversial around here, I think it would actually have to be represented here Someone needs to buy this thing and post a bunch of samples from the 5N or 7.
There were only 1 or 2 photos posted weren't there? When you say that you found many nice samples, do you mean lenses... or samples of images *taken on NEX* ? I haven't seen too many of either actually.
Although I have seen a few of them (lenses) sold for under $500, so it should fit that requirement anyway.
I purchased the 28/1.9 to use as a normal on Micro 4/3rds and shot with it quite extensively for a year on m43 and also on a Bessa R film RF. It's an excellent lens but I found it very trying to focus with an EVF at wide apertures due to the low contrast the lens exhibits until stopped down by a couple stops. I'd expect that peaking would improve things somewhat but the low contrast at wide apertures will remain a problem for focusing the 28/1.9 in the f1.9-2.8 range.
I ended up selling it as it proved to be a pain on m43 and while I loved the lens on film, I was always shooting it stopped down there as well and it's rather large for a 28 if you are only going to shoot at smaller apertures.

there is no comparing the nex EVF to ANY other EVF. It has no problem with low contrast on very fast glass.
Incredible focus control. The LCD is a joke in comparison.

Frank, to my eyes and on this monitor at work your images are on the limit to be oversharpened. At some places there are hints of halos from sharpening. I also think I see signs of a "clarity"-slider (or LCE) at a couple of places?
Nice captures in general though with the first one as my favourite. EDIT: I'm sorry for missing your name Wilhelm.
5N. I've been using 28/2 rokkor and C/Y and have yet to decide between the 3.. maybe I should sell them all with a few more and put the money to a cron .
I took the CV to the UK over Christmas due to size and came away with a number of photos I like. I'm not too worried about x-frame sharpness WO and although I think the CY should be better I can't see much difference ucontrast wise between the 3. In fact before I bought the CV I could barely tell the difference between the Rokkor and CY.
I'll cull through some more and/or get it out there and take some more.

Ah, I should have guessed. I wondered if it was a flower with jelly on it, but the eyes were strange (well, everything was...).

So you go R to M + Hawks? Great idea. Close focus for my 400 telyt
the 21-35 is also very interesting--might be great on the n7 too.
But it sounds like the CV is pretty acceptable as a normal for the 5n, as far as you are concerned?
Not sure how close you get with a 5mm tube on that lens...
A 21-35 is a great thing on a cropped sensor. I have an SMC-P 20-35/4 which works fine as long as there is light enough for it.
I owned the CV 28/2 for a period while I was on µ4/3. I really liked the rendering from that lens. There is some focus shift but that's not a problem with our cameras. What put me off was the smearing at the borders. I haven't seen that though with the Nex cameras (but then again, I haven't seen a lot of samples either).

Yes, R-M-Hawks. Not much good on long lenses though. I have a 135 Canon LTM and the Hawks doesn't do squat.
Yes, given that I'll never really cough up $3k for a lens the CV is a good alternative for small fast normal. If I didn't have the Leica though I think I'd go for the Rokkor or CY for better stopped down corner performance. I have to confess though that since I've been using the Nex I've been doing a LOT more handheld photography, something I never did with my 1ds3 and coming from LF. The point being that as yet I don't have so many frames shot stopped down with delay on a tripod to critically compare the Rokkor-CV-CY.

agreed, my concern with the cv 28/1.9 is that the SA and possibly astigmatism will make it difficult to get a subject in a rule of thirds type comp to pop wide open. it's just a feeling i've gotten from looking at images with the lens, i could be totally wrong.

I'm not either. Around f2 and faster it generally doesn't matter to me. My concern is more about in the f2.8-4 range, meaning the equivalent of around f4-5.6 on a 135 sensor, which I happen to use a lot. I like the option of sharp corners in this range, so I don't want my sensor artificially softening things up with 135 lenses that should generally be sharp across the frame on an aps-c sensor.
@mawz
not that I can tell lots about the glass--though I love the shot, but for a near subject like that the sony 24 looks to be world class from the samples I've seen, aside from the aberations it can throw out--or fringes or whatever you sometimes see with it. A bit quirky and sometimes brilliant--why they could not produce something great overall and forgiving, I really can't understand.
