i really haven't been shooting much at all lately ... and if so it seems im shooting wide mor- so than telephoto.
lens:
18-55 kit lens IS
ef-s macro 60 2.8 (love this)
70-200 f4 non IS (love this but rarely used)
im thinking about selling the 70-200 f4 and the IS kit lens for a better wide angle (10-22?)
and maybe later on adding the 80 1.8 to my list.
are there any other wide angles under 500$ that i should be looking at?
it looks like the 18-55 2.8 IS is a little out of my price range (trying to essentially swap the 70-200 f4 for a wide --- so looking to stay around $500)
the 10-22 would be nice but would leave me a huge gap between 22 and 60mm ... gah.. any ideas?
I had a Tokina 17/3.5 prime that was really impressive for the price (~$200), I'd recommend that to anyone wanting wide on a budget. It's well made and really sharp in the center.
Tokina made a 20-35/3.5-4.5 which sells for about $100, but I don't know anything about that one.
There's also the Tokina 12-24.
Don't forget the Sigma 17-35 and 12-24, the Sigma 12-24 is your best bet me thinks, though it will probably max out your budget. I had the 12-24 on a 5D for a while, let me know if you want any samples.
As an alternate equipment line up, perhaps a 5D and say, 17-40L would suit you better. Crop cameras just don't do wide very well and both the 5d and 17-40 are pretty reasonably priced these days.
Before you jump off into new lenses try each of your lens in portrait mode and take about 5 or 6 each images with about 20 degree overlap and stitch them together with one of the photostich programs. This can be done handheld to try. CS 4, and 5 will stitch very well as does " the PanoramaFactory". I don't remember if DPP has a stitch program its been so long since I used it. I've reprocessed my 20D images with CS5 and what an improvement over the software of the 20D days. Try the trial versions of the programs if you don't already have them. My wides now sit in the closet and the 100mm macro sits on the camera most of the time.
