Nov 17th for me. I hope that means at my doorstep.
I am kinda debating about getting this lens now. I have the 24-70 and besides the f/1.4 factor, I see no reason to getting it. I am trying to think how often I shoot at f/1.4 and would I benefit from it. There is also something about primes that just makes me happy. The look, the feel, the challenge. I do not know. But is it worth the $1800 price tag? Will see what happens.
Maybe I can just write it off on my tax returns and not care one bit
Chris
Although I can't forget, when I had the 35 f/1.8... I was using it all the time on my D700 as my bread and butter lens until I got sick of the vignetting and sold it. I guess they always say, glass before cameras.
I was trying to save up for the next gen D4/D800 but I could wait alittle bit longer.

According to nikon rumors, it will be available at amazon from the 17th to Dec.01
DigLloyd will be doing a review on this I'm sure. Will wait for his report to see the verdict. He's been playing with the prototype Distagon 35mm 1.4 so I am sure he will have a lot to say.

the 35/1.4G is a foregone conclusion {for me} - but if the new distagon isolates subjects like the contax version does, i'll get them both.

In exactly the same situation. The 24-70 is too big for me, but man, the zoomlens is just stunning. I tested it against the 50mm 1.4 G and could not justify carrying the 50mm as well - there is no optical difference - not even with the zoom wide open. If the 35mm delivers (after delivery), the 24-70 will be sold and I might add a 85mm.

I'm in the same boat, I think I'm going to sell the 24-70 to fund the 35.
I sold my 24-70 for the 24 1.4 and was the worst decision I have made. I sold the 24 1.4 after a month and looking to buy back a 24-70 ASAP. I didn't find the IQ to be any better than the 24-70 and thought I would need the f/1.4 but honestly I didn't.

Interesting... point taken and noted. I will give that 35mm 1.4 a thorough test against the 24-70 once I get it in my hands...
(have just sent my 24-70 out for cleaning and adjustment)
