Yesterday I was cleaning the sensor on my oldie but goodie, Nikon D70s as I want to use it as a tag along camera later in the week ... I took the camera out back here at the studio yesterday for some test shots to check my cleaning job and noticed the water droplets on these flowers ... I have always been amazed by the IQ this little camera is capable of ... especially with a 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 kit lens .... unfortunately it has taken a back seat to my D200's and D300's ... this was shot using Aperture Priority, 1/60, f/8, ISO 400 hand held.
As I always mention with regard to the D70s, it has the same color metering as Nikon's pro DSLRs and the F5/6. I would much rather have a D70s than a D80.
I do agree ... of all the DSLR's I've owned (D1, D1H, D2H, D100, D200, D300) ... I still think the D70s may be the best bang for the buck in many ways ...
Sweet flora passthegravy ... proves that great photography has more to do with the organic software behind the eye peering through the viewfinder than the hardware in hand .... the detail of the texture in your first image is top shelf all the way ... thanks for sharing!
i too think that D80 was big let-down. i used it for few days when i swapped it with some random guy in coffee shop on my vacation. He fell in love with big LCD and i already pretty hated D80 at the time, so why not.
I still keep and use my D70s. As a matter of fact, the most used lens on my camera is the 18-70 and I am very happy with my results.
The meter of the D70s, in my opinion, is one of the best I have used. The colors from the camera are from the first generation, pretty neutral I would say. At times I crank them up with VIVID or keep the colors at sRGB III.
For those who prefer and use flash outdoors (I am one of them) the D70s offers a flash sync of 1/500sec. Try that with a D3!
All the pictures that I see posted here from the D70s are excellent, a great tribute to the little camera.
The D70s is the first camera I grab when I travel.
As long as the flash isn't talking to the camera (Nikon dedicated flashes) it will sync at all speeds. IMHO the best high-speed flash sync camera of all time. I bought 2 of them.

Great point and great example .... also ... how about the battery life in the D70? ... heck I have to remind myself to throw it in the charger every now and then ... ... I've never owned a camera that sipped up power so conservatively ....

Since I use my D70 mainly as my daylight flash camera, it doesn't get a lot of use. I hardly ever remember to charge the battery and it could sit in my bag for weeks on end. It always works when I pull it out. That battery NEVER dies.

Yep, That's why I still own 3 of them (one converted for IR shooting). Plus, D50's can be had for a song these days. One of Nikon's best consumer DSLR's, IMHO.
That's why I still can't bear to part with my D50... these little 6mp NIkons kick some serious photographic butt for the money... just put a good lens on them, screwdriver type, AFS or manual... something about the almost perfect synergy between pixel count, and pixel density.
I am shooting a D700 and my wife got handed down my D200 but we still each have D70s it's the one I always have within arms reach while on the road for work, they really are great cameras.
