Long-time lurker, first time poster, so I hope I've got this image thing working...
The weather made this game memorable. And it looked like the girls had a great time! Just before the game started (and before the clouds opened up) my daughter said she'd like to play in the rain...
Frank, I was a bit worried even though I'd read about the D300s being weather-resistant. I kept the camera gear wrapped in towels and stayed under umbrellas as much as possible. I still got soaked. My daughter insists there's no need to wash her reeking shin guards because they were cleaned in the rain...
Wow! Awesome shots for such bad weather. What kind of shutter speeds were you getting with it raining? They would have cancelled our games with that much rain, not because they don't like to play in but they wouldn't want their fields damaged by it.
Thanks, Bill! IIRC, with the ISO at 1600 I was able to shoot at 1/800 and faster. Although we were under some leaky clouds, some decent light was coming in from the sides -- that helped some with the shutter speeds.
The field officials halted all games with about 6 or 8 minutes left in ours. I was surprised they hadn't whistled earlier, but it made for a game we'll all remember (even though our girls were down by a couple goals).
