Fuji just released some more info on the X100. A work-in-progress with regular updates to keep people anxious.
Good marketing ploy? Certainly something different.
Can you imagine Nikon announcing they will release a D4 in changeable modules then asking what would you like to see in it? Only in a parallel universe.
I just pre-ordered with Robert too. I am so enjoying the G1 with the 20/1.7—beautiful images from this great lens—so I am sure the x100 will be similarly interesting too.
nik; can you link to that info. when you get a chance? cheers, KL
funny any retailer is accepting preorders because there is no release date set yet nor word on how many copies are being sent to the US - the camera is still in production as far as I know from a few sources.
I never understood preorders - since the internet its so easy to find something when its released. Oh well, im glad this camera is getting alot of buzz at least
i hope their product quality is better than their teaser copy:
"Image stabilisation is required when using fixed or zoom lenses with telephoto focal lengths and variable maximum apertures. As the X100 features a fixed lens with a maximum fast aperture of F2, image stabilisation is not required as this combination will still allow photographers to successfully hand-hold the camera in low light conditions." -X100 teaser page
edit: i suppose i mean to say that the target market for this camera could very well be the kind of photographer that fuji believes will accept this explanation of IBIS and why it's not 'in there'. there are no conclusions to be drawn, but as someone who (again) found u4/3 (in all its glory) disappointing, i don't find it encouraging. ymmv.

Try finding the new Panasonic GH2. I preordered and have one on the way from Precision. Doing an online search I didn't see any available.
Over at B&H, there is actually a specific message you get when you try to search for it:
While the manufacturer has announced the Fujifilm FinePix X100, we nevertheless have not yet received any reliable indication of when it will be available to U.S. retailers to sell to you. We will update our product information for this item as soon as more information is available
There is some kind of demand for this. I bet it sells like crazy at first.
Re. IS; with a sensor that, very likely, will perform at relatively high ISOs, and a 35mm EFOV lens, I don't think IS is necessary either. Back in the day I used to shoot dance and theatre for a living (available light only); my most-used lens was a 35/2 Nikkor, and the fastest film off the shelf was 400 ASA. Yes, we pushed it, but 1600 was not really impressive; more Impressionistic.
I am looking forward to playing with this, for sure.
Is there any info yet on how much it will cost? I would love to get one (depending on the price of course). I just hope they don't do like Leica did with their X1 priced at $2000.
