p.1 #1 · Pack yer bags - wedding photos for C&C

Here's my latest, well, 2nd to latest wedding that I would love and appreciate any candid and honest feedback you'd like to offer.

This was a travel themed wedding so, wherever possible, they had things that tied in with their theme. From a luggage cake with passports on top (all edible) to crystal globes and an excalibur (car) to drive away in. In case you were wondering, there were a total of 20 people at this wedding. Thanks and enjoy!!!

interesting set Brian.
for me not one of your strongest sets.
I could easily see this entire wedding in B&W.

Looks like some difficult or very (cough) interesting surroundings.

all the detail shots except the ring shot i really dig. very nice.

Some shots on the b&g are nice and others not:
9, 10, 11, 17 (sweetness), 18, 19 20 really like - good stuff.

12, 21, 22, and 24 not so much. The compositions are not working for me.
12 - for me to tight on car and yet i keep wanting to look around the image. picture has no focal point.
21 to tight - tells me what?
22 feels tight - i want to look at the plant pot first

I really like 25, 26 and 27 (cool in B&W)

Love to follow your work ...
This is my first impressions running thru and what popped into my head.

Later .... Mark

Some thoughts...

2 - whatever is shiny & coming out of the next of the mannequin is distracting. Clone it out.
5 - maybe gel the flash just a bit more, to balance with the background a bit better.
6-9 - I get the feeling that it WAS a small wedding, and you were loathe to get too close to the action. These seem quite distant & removed from the proceedings.
13, 14, 17, 18 - nice candid moments, but I have the feeling at the same time that these are perhaps posed shots made to look like candids.
22 - beautiful, simple portrait. Maybe lose the vase in the top right corner.
24 - not flattering to the bride's legs at all.... looks like she's straddling something, or has an absurdly wide stance.
26-27 - lots of fun, these seem more relaxed & candid.

Summary - well done. The couple comes across slightly stiff, to my eye, though they might simply be more reserved individuals in front of a camera. Well captured, well processed. Relaxed, casual, timeless, if perhaps a bit detached in what we're seeing here.

Thanks for taking the time guys.. wedding was held in a historic home that was converted to a restaraunt. The ceremony took place @ 11am which means formals were held at high noon. We did go out @ 4pm and shoot some more couples stuff but none of that is posted.

3 sides of the reception room was backlit so I had alot of light pumping in to counteract that. My couple were definitely not comfortable in front of the camera and I did my best to give them other things to do to take their mind off of me.

My personal feeling was that this was a pretty strong set (minus 24 - she was sitting on his leg) so it's good to hear differing opinions.. thanks again!

I really like that shot from outside the building #21 because I was hoping to see the back of her dress

I think this is a nice set and perhaps one of the best you've ever done but there are some things that you can do to make these images even stronger.

Missing from the set is a nice front and back bridal portrait showing the bride in all of her wedding day bridal glory. There is a nice photo of the dress without the bride but the bride in the dress is more important.

#5 not flattering to the bride's waistline.

#6 nice concept on your part but espressions not there. Too bad they didn't look at each other. It doesn't hurt to prompt them a bit.

#7 nice viewpoint but too much floor even if it does have the reflection.

#9 I think you may be too far away on this one. I'm find my brides like a tight crop on the ceremony kiss even though I try to take one that shows more of the environment. I think the light fixture is too much.

#11 again, very nice idea. What is awkward is the posing. The bride's slouching posture makes her look bigger. Also, don't forget to tidy up the dress and the guy's shirt and tie.

#12 the most interesting part of the photo is the front grill instead of exhaust pipe and spare tire. Bring them forward and have them intereact (kiss and something) and you have a winner.

#16 metal behind rings distracts. Try to make rings really stand out.

#18 chandelier coming out of couple's head takes away from an excellent photo.

#24 nice concept but two things spoil it. The first is posing and expression of the couple. Have them interacting or laughing at a joke or kissing to give it some fun. The other are the harsh reflections in the window. Not much to do about the reflections other than photoshop. Nice idea though!

#26 the expression makes or breaks this type of photo. I don't think the expressions here match what they are say in #12. This is where the photographer gets them to show how much fun they are having by interacting with them.

#27 not showing the bride's face here is a mortal sin and if this had been my set I would have probably left this photo out of the Fred Miranda set. Sometimes you can get behind the car and get them to look over their shoulders.

This may seem like a lot of nitpicking here but the details are what makes the difference between average wedding photographer and one who is really good. You have some great ideas and so I am taking time to point some things out that may help you next time. Now you must refine them and you'll be excellent!

I hope this helps!
