p.1 #1 · Canon's Omnidirectional Camera @ 50 Megapixels
Panoramic photography can be tricky. What's better? Canon's camera that shoots a single, 360° image. The tech uses a giant, 50 megapixel CMOS sensor and aspheric mirror to capture a sharp, sweeping photo, exceeding the human eye's measly 120° view.
Pretty neat. Now I want a camera that can scan the entire room in 3D in one shot allowing me in post processing spin the room and get the exact composition and angle I want!

This sort of technology has been out for a while actually, with companies like 0-360, Kaidan, and Egg producing such devices. I've never used one, but I heard the quality leaves something to be desired. Hopefully Canon's solution offers much better IQ. The 50mp sensor is pretty interesting too.
I'd looked into getting one of these a few years back for panos, but you can't shoot the nadir (down) and zenith (up) shots with these so you can only spin around like a top. You can't look up towards the sky or down towards the earth in the final interactive pano. You get 360 degree panos, not 360x180 degree panos.
That said, it's really nice to be able to get the full pano in one single shot. No worries about parallax, subject movement, or stitching in post. Plus this'd be nice for video and security cams too...

This too has been done for many years. In fact, Radiohead made a video using LiDAR:
There are also range cameras that can get distance and intensity for each pixel in real time. Also, if you have a cool $1million or so, you can buy your own LiDAR scanner that you can mount on a car: http://www.optech.ca/lynx.htm
