I come across some pros here and on Flickers come up with some real sharp shots with handholds (as they claims). So I wonder if I'm missing out some techniques here?
Any tip please? Thanks in advance.
Why not post some of your photos here? The 60mm Elmarit should be sharp across the frame.
Thanks ever so much for the tips!
I just want to shoot the plants, flowers and maybe bugs too. I do have a 1:1 extender, but without mastering the lens itself its just an overkill to put that extender on I think.
I was trying to hand hold 1/60 even 1/40 of a second shots, no wonder why not much of success! In that case I guess it's all down to light conditions, sometimes sacrifising ISO becomes necessary? I have a phobia of compromising on ISO.
BTW, awesome shots! When I get to shoot like you...
Yeah, you are right. I guess eventually I've got to get a tripod. Any tips to share on the Elmarit 60 focusing technique? I've realised the Canon 7D live view is actually very helpful in terms of focusing. When in 10x magnifying mode, it show an awful lot of details when focused correctly. I take it the NEX 5N must have the same function?

I'm getting a bit cold feet when attempting to show my shots here as I'm yet to get the hang of MF. But since you've asked, here are a few. Any criticism and advices are welcome.
wheeljack,
Your images looks ok to me, except the first shot. (as carstenw mentioned)
I think you need to sharpen the image a bit after scaling down, that's all.
@carstenw, I tried to focus on but bottom of the glass where the reflection of the lights are. It was in a spanish restaurant with dimmed lights and the shot was handheld at 1/5s. I had a number of tries and this one turns out the best, but still nowhere near ideal.
Some test shots from my recently acquired lenses. The 105-280 zoom is quite good, almost identical to 70-180 APO. The 280/4 APO is the sharpest among all. Focus ring is butter smooth, a joy to use.
Great shots phuang3 love the guy on the horse really stands out from the back ground
Nice shot from the 280/4 must be really thin DOF as you can see by the tail well done

I love such statements as they entertain me for few minutes.
So let's see if I get this blanket statement right:
When you say 99% of the people, you mean all the photographers population or all viewers or the ones who own the V1 or the V2 or the V1 and V2 concurrently or the ones who owned the V1 and V2 separately.
At any rate, if one cannot tell the difference between a 28 Elmarit V1 and a 28 Elmarit V2 then he does not need either and is much better off getting a P&S.
Now that I have my own 28mm v2 and got to use it on my own camera all I can say is I was wrong.
The level of detail this lens shows is astonishing. I am puzzled every time I magnify an image on my monitor or even on my camera's LCD. Crisp, full of detail starting with f2.8. Better and crisper than my Leica M elmarit 28mm ASPH. This is one of those lenses that are hard to part with. I use it on a Nex 5N. I can only imagine how good is on a full frame camera.

I had this lens and am very impressed. It's hard to let go. I love the details and contrast and color but I don't use this focal length often and the lens is not fast enough. I traded it for the Zeiss 35mm 1.4 and am using the Zeiss a lot more. And the zoom 28-90mm at 28mm f2.8 is just as good if stopped down one more stop.
