I too feel like I'm late to the game to comment but, damn man this set is great. I would really love to see these on fiber paper as I can tell they'll look fantastic. Just out of curiosity do you know what Noritsu scanner was used for these? (sorry I'm a bit of a mini-lab nerd) Also I don't know of a single set that I have borrowed so many images for my Inspiration folder.
I've been on 3G internet for a week and missed these.
Great set Evan. These seem tohave a more considered and thoughtful feel about them. Maybe the film thing slowing you down a bit. I don't know. I just like them.
I didn't know what to expect when you said you shot the wedding in b&w, but I knew it would have a different look. These have surpassed my expectations. Your photos are so rich and classic. There is just enough grain. I now know what you meant when you told me to not make everything perfectly smooth.
#2- One of the best- I love the placement of the chair to block direct light into the camera.
#3- solid- great expression
2 > 4
5- Amazing handle on exposure- esp since it is not digital
7- one of my favorites- the glass and bottle just missed being overlapped with backgrounds that would have distracted-
8- like 7- a shot they will surely love
10- pj I expect to see from you in every wedding. good framing and reactions
11- this one is good, but not great. They are well composed in relation to the outer frame, but not the background (door- picture)
12 > 11
13 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perfect, I don't care what anyone says
14 is amazing like 5. Good framing and contrast
16- very nice- he will like how you made him look
18- good capture
24- very solid- great contrast
26- solid
29- will look great in the album
31- !!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorites- Everything about it- detail on the edges of frame- preacher inside her left arm and of course her motion
32- 16mm is too distorted for my taste- but really good for what it is
34 This is better than 32 because there is more depth with the statue
35 is very good- just enough sun- good comp
36--- money- one of my favorites
38- great framing
40 good despite focus- I am glad to see this photo
45- that arching of the hand makes this photo
48- solid
51- nice way to add texture- using ivy
57- love it
63- fun fun- it is nice to see the dancers interact with the camera
72- I like you framed them with the window
75-76- this one has spunk
77-78-79-80- great moment- these really are rich
2 is beautiful, timeless... Love the emotion in 18, even better if he is a father or other important family member. 50 is great, they will love this! 78 is really powerful for me. I can imagine being that bride and looking at that photo, then feeling EXACTLY the way I felt in that moment. VERY well done.
I don't post here that often... but I just wanted to say that this set is absolutely stunning. The level of emotion and connection in these photos nearly brought a tear to my eye. This is by far my favorite set of wedding photos on this site.
good stuff!
I have a few notes... you are missing,
1. Selective Color
2. Star Filter
3. Jumping Bridal Party
4. Shot of feet
5. Soot of Brick wall occupying 2/3 of frame
6. Shot of rings on branch or flower
7. Tilt lens, OOF effect
8. Train tracks
9. Shot from under B&G looking up at hands/bouquet and into nose
10. Dress hanging in window
11. ...
I don't really post here, I mostly just read the threads here but I just have to say, these are some of the best wedding shots I have seen. They are so "real" and capture the moment perfectly.
I had been traveling, so a little late to comment...
Love the work - it's truly something different. I will be the first to admit I don't have the slightest clue about film, but I can really appreciate the organic quality of the medium and how it blends with your style. There is an essence of "classic authenticity" represented here that cannot be cloned or copied. Kudos, friend.

Many superb photographers have said kind things in this thread and I'm flattered and humbled.
Evan, your reserved personality, humility, and pure artistic talent are why you are so well respected around here. This is truly a solid body of work, and for your first trip out with all B&W, I'd say it solidifies your reputation as a photographer and not merely a digital artist. Is it perfect? I hope it never is, as I would hate to see you stagnate. You are a true inspiration, sir.
My favorites; 31, 36, 78, 83. If I could get an image like #78, I think I'd quit.

You have turned the clock back. Grats
Imagine how much better his images would be if he'd used smoke and mirrors.
In 50 years, the only thing dating these images will be fashion and hair styles.

Sheesh, miss FM for a day and I miss out on this one. Since reading your FB posts I've been waiting for this. I bet the nervousness with the light meter spurred you to make this set what it is. It's purely awesome. Some of the shots to me just look like "you couldn't do that with digital", and admittedly, some of the shots (41/42) were actually too grainy for my taste.. my eyeballs don't see with grain, at least in broad daylight. Surely, having a handsome couple (seriously, they could both be models) and perfect weather (light breeze, diffused cloud lighting) helps a lot. Props to Sam for allowing you to shoot this portfolio-expanding wedding.
It won't be long before you get propelled to such a position that you stop posting at FM. I will enjoy the ride while I can, and maybe catch some of the magic too. Thank you sir for posting these.
Oh yeah, just curious, what's with the tilt in the reception shots? Unusual for you Evan (at least based on what I've seen from you in the recent past)
First of all I must say that most of the images are amazing.
Second, for the past couple of months I started to shoot some film into my weddings, and I love it!!!
