If it's too slow on Canon site, you could download from here.

What happened to the 720p, 60fps that was supposed to be released with it also? I was looking forward to being able to shoot 60fps

I'm not mad or anything that it wasn't included, I just "remember" it being listed in the original Canon announcement.

Is it safe to update? Anyone tries photography options after update?

It's the blur that makes it look like film. The HD and DOF on DSLR will blow away those very expensive film equipments.

So does the 24FPS mode really give it a film-like look?

I used azurenko's link above and installed and it seems fine, camera turns on and everything

35mm movie cameras use a standard exposure rate of 24FPS.
Shooting 24FPS at 1/50 creates motionblur similar to shooting at a 180 degree shutterangle, which is the most common in movie indutry.

-but those are just 2 of the factors that make up the "film look".

Don't think Canon ever mentioned it. There was just speculation because the functionality was in the 7D.

Installed it last night. Works as advertised. Bummer about no 720p, 60 fps tho.

Never-the-less, a big "Thanks!" to Canon.

Cheers!

Odd

I have the same issue; "io: fork exception" and the file won't extract. Any ideas?

You don't extract that file, it's already a .fir file for doing the upgrade!

I'd much rather have a firmware update that allows for real auto ISO than enhanced video capability personally.

I agree. Although the IQ from the 5DII is so good at the higher ISO's I don't worry too much about going up there if needed

I share your excitement, but unfortunately am at work and have to wait until this evening to install it. But the file is on my computer! Wouldn't have even bought this camera had the firmware update not been released.

And other enhancements that the 7D has such as greater latitude for exposure compensation in Av and Tv modes etc. I hope Canon doesn't forgot these are picture taking tools.

Serious question: what do people use more than 3 stops of exposure compensation for?

I've been shooting for over 35 years and I can't come up with any real examples of when that would be needed over, say, slotting into manual mode. Anyone?
