#1 - Is the rock in the lower right corner and albatros or an anchor, and is the fact that the falls upper right hand corner is cut off ruin the comp.?
#2 - Is the fact that the falls upper right hand corner is cut off ruin the comp.?
Thanks for giving me me your thoughts and incites. Rick
There are two problems to my eyes. The most significant is that the fallen trunk lies across the top edge of the falls. The second problem is that the rock in the lower right seems to not fall within the DOF for adequate sharpness. Both are more important than the right side of the falls.
AuntiPode - Thanks, I knew about the OOF rock, and was thinking about either a square crop in the first one above it, or going back to re-shoot with or without the rock. The question of whether it is an ugly filler or an anchor was what I wanted an opinion on. Thanks for the comment on the log, I guess it didn't bother me as far as dividing the photo into two sections, because I felt they complimented each other. I'm not sure I see that as an issue so I would like further opinions on that. Lastly, is the cut off waterfall something that tugs at you compositionally or is it OK. Thanks for your comments I appreciate the view point. Rick
Rick, I think you should do the square crop on the first one. But if you have a chance to go back and reshoot try that too. The logs are natural in these places...that doesn't bother me at all.
For the second one, I don't think the cut off falls ruins the comp at all.
Greg - Thanks, I'm always trying to tone down the falls. I had a small spot that was blown out and in my hammering of the water to bring that back in line I think I lost some of the life in the falls. I'll look into brightening those up some. I'll look at the crop also. Thanks again for your time and comments.
Y - Thanks for your feedback. These falls are only about 40 min. away from home, so I will have plenty of chances to try and re-shoot this. Thanks for the comments and your time.
