p.1 #1 · Upcoming Tripod & head information here

If anybody knows of anything up and coming from tripods and heads, please post it up. There doesn't seem to be information reported from PMA on this type of equipment, but maybe there are people here that have found out things.

Here's what I have found out:

Gitzo - In the fall, they will release the 2541T stand alone without the kit. They didn't answer my question if there would be a 2 series of the Systematic line, so for the time being, I'll assume that is a "no".

Feisol - introduction of new RAL anti-rotating leg system on all tripods and monopods. Availability begins next month and will increase 20% in price. So a great new feature at an increase in price or hurry and get a good deal on the current sets.

Anybody else know or can find out anything?

Those both seem like useful bits of info. Thanks.

A 2 series systematic would be a great backpacking/travel platform -- I wish they'd explore it.

the new TQC 23/24 from RRS will be showing up around the end of March give or take some of April. relevent to some but not to others.

Markins Ballheads- https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/850691
i would expect Photoclam to follow suit in a few months.

Nice. sjms, I think you meant to link to your thread on Markins new clamp release. If they would make a M10 traveller, I would get that.

I'm assuming that the RRS TVC 23/24 is like a 2 series systematic like ther TVC-33 is comparable to a 3 series. I like that they will offer leveling plates, optional center columns, etc. They need a horizontal adapter.

SS, you're welcome. I agree about the 2 series systematic. I really like the idea of the systematic line, and I would probably step up to get that if it were available. As it is, it looks like I'll get a new Feisol Tournament to essentially have a blend of the good aspects of Gitzo Systematic and Traveller 2 series. Maybe I'll need to look at this RRS.

actually a TVC 33 replaces both the 35xx and 55xx in capability. considering its weight at 4lbs and capacity 50lb. i saw no reason to even look to a TQC model. i already have a 2540ex with the best articulation on the CP and legs of any tripod as of the moment.

the only model i would be interested in is a replacement for the explorer.

as to an articulated model similar to the explorer there has been no word on that. i am waiting for my leveling head to be realized for my TVC.

*raises hand* Sorry, but what's their TQC? It's not on their website anymore.

In speaking of the articulated tripods, would you give me your opinion on Feisol's fixed horizontal kit and their articulated horizontal kit? You seem to be well versed on the tripods, so I'd appreciate your thoughts. I would only use the horizontal pieces every now and then, so I'm not as worried about it being more time consuming/difficult for setup. Since I haven't found reviews on the pieces, do they at least appear that the designs might be "stable"? A modular piece like this seems right up RRS's alley.

originally the smaller model 23/24 tripods were referred to as the TQC models now it seems they've stuck with TVC.

i use the gitzo GT2540ex or explorer series tripod as my travel/macro setup w/BH-40 head. the movements of this tripod allow for stepped (detented) adjustment over a 180 deg vertical sweep and a 360 smooth horizontal rotation of the arm/centerpost. the legs ar infinitely adjustable individually ovr the entire range closed to full flat open. for close up/macro work there is no more versatile a tripod. stability is normal under normal use but requires imagination from the user to setup and use in creative ways. a tool waiting for someone who can master it. i've gone through 3 generations of this design. you will learn that counterbalances are your friends in use. stability is in the hands of the user. i personally don't see the use of the standard horizontal bar unless you intend to clamp 2 bodies onto the tripod which is always an option.

My TVC33 replaced the CT3371 from Feisol. i use it primarily for my long lenses.

I think this was all clarified, but here is the summary:

TVC = really right stuff carbon fiber tripod
TQC = what the 2-series RRS tripod was being called before now settling on continuation of TVC

RRS TVC-33 (equivilant to Gitzo 3+ series systematic, 3 section)
RRS TVC-23 (equivilant to a Gitzo 2 series systematic, 3 section)
RRS TVC-24 (equivilant to a Gitzo 2 series systematic, 4 section)

Re: the OP's request for info on upcoming tripod and head info -- I asked Kerry at reallybigcameras.com and he responded:

Yes, Feisol did announce their new Rapid line of tripods with the RAL
anti-rotation feature last week at PMA.

However, the details mentioned in the thread at fredmiranda.com are not
100% accurate.

For most models, the prices of the new models with the RAL feature will
be 30% higher than the current non-RAL models. The only exceptions are
the more expensive CT-3472, CT-3372, CT-3472LVL and CT-3372LVL models.
For those models, the RAL versions will sell for 10% higher than their
non-RAL counterparts.

I will have the CT-3441S Rapid with RAL in stock early next week. Other
models will be available by the end of the month. The specs for the

I guess it will be at least another 3 years before they incorporate Gitzo's g-locks into their line given how long it took them to get ALR.

********
Me too!!! I am not sure how they will manage production/demand after introduction of the 23/24 series. The delay from order to delivery for the 33 is still 6+ weeks. I suspect that the "extras" for the TVC-33 have a lower priority then legs.
