I'm a DX shooter and the only fast prime I need is 50mm. So "NO" on both. But I am glad to see Nikon offer these lenses. It really fleshes out the linup. Still a few other things to update, but holes are getting smaller all the time.
Can't wait to get my hands on a 24mm 1.4. I love the whole idea of it. My Sigma 28mm 1.8 isn't reliable enough with focus, and I'm sure the Nikon will be built better and have purdier bokeh.
The zoom depends on two things, first is the optical performance vs the 14-24mm, second is if Lee filters come out it's filter holder soon, and how much it and the filters will cost.
If the 16-35mm is so so against the 14-24mm, and Lee come out with their filter kit, then I'll stick with the 14-24mm. If the 16-35mm is a star performer, and either Lee does not come out with the holder, or it costs an arm and a leg, then I sell the 14-24mm and get the new zoom.
The 24mm f/1.4 is for later down the line, would go well with the 85mm f/.1.4 I have as a low light kit or for the subject isolation you get. Will wait for the tests and price to go down.
The 14-24 has been on my list for a while, but if the 16-35 can deliver similar performance at a significantly better price then count me in! For the 24mm lens I think I would go for the T/S before the 1.4
I'm planning on getting a 16-35 and testing it against my 14-24. If it looks on par in the F8-14 range where I usually shoot, I think I'll sell the 14-24 (although, it is HARD to sell sharp glass like that).
MTFs make it look good in the center, but those corners might be cause for concern. Guess it all depends on how it sharpens up after F8.
Definitely a 16-35 when used ones start showing up.
No way I can rationalize or justify a 24 1.4, although I can still dream. Just like the 200 f/2, 300 f/2.8 and the 200-400 I want but will likely never own.
I'll get the 24, even though I really wish it were a 35. If I'm not totally blown away, I won't be keeping it long. And, by this, I mean, I expect it to shine above the 24-70, to stay. I'm curious to see how it performs wide open in respect to saggital coma flare. It seems to be a bit porky for a prime at 620g. Small size and light weight are one of the primary benefits of primes.
