p.1 #1 · VR lens and Nikon film camera

Hey,

I was wondering if the new VR lenses were compatible with the old film bodies? Will the VR of the new 16-35 f4 work on a F100 body?

Regards,

yes it should.

The only cameras VR won't work on are either really old, or really cheap (think N70).
Ken Rockwell probably has a database or something showing what will work.

haha why didn't you post this in the Nikon section?

film is irrelevant to the lens. the film does not denote whether or not VR will work, the camera does.

I don't know the Nikon side of the 35mm world, but on Canon EOS, the IS lenses work on all the film bodies to my knowledge. I suppose on the Nikon side it would depend on whether the electrical contacts could support the lens inputs. I would guess the F100 has the necessary contacts.

Most AF nikon SLRs will support VR, it should just be the lowest models that won't.

Actually, I guessed that ppl here were more likely to know if an F100 would work with a new VR lens than ppl in the Nikon forum. I don't really think that using Velvia or Tri-X really matters. But thanks for pointing out .

VR works on any of the film bodies with 5 or more AF points.

This means the F5, F6, F65, F75, F80 and F100 all support VR, older bodies do not. These bodies also fully support AF-S focusing and G-type lenses as well as being able to power PC-E lenses. The F6 also supports i-TTL flash (and thus is the only Nikon film body to support the SB-400 and SB-900). No film body can set aperture on a PC-E lens from the body.

Regards,

To be a bit more specific, you can use the new 16-35 f4 VR on the F100 body AND the camera can take advantage of the VR feature.

My Nikon F4 can use VR lenses (assuming their not G lenses) but cannot take advantage of the VR feature.

I've used VR lenses on my F-100's numerous times.
