p.1 #1 · Day 1 - Grand Canyon, Antelope and Horshoe Bend
I am just back from Sedona and Page area. And I have not posted anything lately, since being in Houston (for work) and Radium (for fun) and now Sedona (for fun). [ And next week the Big Island - life is tough]
On the first day, Dan I drove to Grand Canyon (Grand View for sunrise) then to lower antelope for mid day and then to Horseshoe Canyon for dusk.
The visit was great but the lighting was challenging. The sunrise in the morning was quickly obscured by the clouds and there was no real sunset.
But all the same it was a lot of fun and very impressive.
Comments and feedback appreciated.

Absolutely great stuff Scott. They are all very attractive but #4 and #5 stand out from the crowd for me. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this trip

Pretty good takes Scott. I like the third one the best. Looks like a smiling man in the upper right corner, almost like one of those caricatures you see of Bob Hope. At least that's what it looks like to me.
p.1 #5 · Day 1 - Grand Canyon, Antelope and Horshoe Bend
Very nice images Scott... Looks like you had lots of fun on the trip... My favorite of the lot would be 5th as it offers a slightly different view of the often seen place... Great job! Waiting to see more...

David: Horshoe and Antelope are great spots. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
tgrando: I saw the same man in the upper right corner. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Next week walking on lava will be my plan Scott
sarchibald: Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Vibhav: Horseshoe Bend is a great spot. We saved it for the last shot of the day and stayed until the sun went down. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Mike717: It was worse than dizzy. Long exposures looking down over the edge were scary. There are no fences and you can stand looking down about 1000' or more. Thanks for the feedback. Scott
Rags: Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Dan: I look forward to your version of same. Thanks. Scott
Ray. It was a great but long day. 4am to 11pm without stop from and back to Sedona. Thanks for the feedback. Scott

When I was shooting Horseshoe Bend I laid on my stomach and crawled up to the edge...heheh...aint no way I was gonna stand right on the edge.
Your shots have better contrast/light than I had--we were there around 11 a.m. and the sun was pretty much overhead...and there weren't any clouds that day.
You got some nice shots of Antelope Canyon, btw, also.
One little nit, which no one else made mention of--those wide brown frames really don't do anything for your photos, IMO...they are more of a distraction, to me.
I like to use/see a simple white matte (about an inch wide) with a fine black line around the edge of the matte. That way, the beauty of the landscape gets all the attention...FWIW...and just my bias

More like 300 feet at Horseshoe. Seems like the 1000 at Toroweap, but a bit less. Fine images from there. I have to say, your restraint in post from Lower Antelope is admirable. Looks like midday. One hell of an odyssey pal. Nicely choreographed.
p.1 #15 · Day 1 - Grand Canyon, Antelope and Horshoe Bend
Hey Scott,
Now I know you have gotten some very glowing reviews here, so perhaps I need to get glasses... but for me, the only really good shot you have here is #5. That one really shines.
I want to like #1, the sun is so cool in that, but the overall lack of contrast in that shot takes away from it's potential impact.
Then in all 3 shots from Antelope, I find them to be lacking in midtones, again flat and lacking the contrast they should have. Especially in #2 and 3, there are some real hot spots where you either processed them to hot or they were overexposed and you weren't watching the histogram when shooting.
You got some pretty cool compositions, but for me, and I hope since I am the only person making any suggestions for improvement here, that I am not judging these too harshly, but I would really suggest that you reprocess #1 through 4. Especially #1, since it has so much potential with that sun like that.

MotorCityjim: Okay now I don't feel as bad for being nervous at the edge. It is scary even if you are not afraid of heights. The horshoe shots were around sunset time here (5PM). Thanks for the suggestions on frames. Thanks - Scott
Tim: 300' - well it felt like 1000', but thanks for the correction. The shots at antelope were about 2pm. Thanks for your feedback. Scott
JimFox: Don't hold back - I am looking to improve and appreciate the suggestions. I think I will reprocess. I did not like 1 much but the light was so hazy it was my best shot and after driving 3 hours to get it, I had an emotional attachment. But I agree on 1, that it is lacking. I will go back and reprocess the Antelope with your suggestions - I processed them on the plane with my small mac pro book. Thanks for the great detail comments. Scott

+1 for Jim's comment.
The antelope shots are a bit flat and lack the saturation that you normally get. #1 is really cool with a sun like that, but need some processing. I prefer #5 over #6, since 5 has a better comp, and 6 is a bit flat. Other than that, awesome series

I hate to do it, but +2 Jim's comments.
There's a flat, HDR-ish feeling to these that isn't very appealing to me, but I know that's a very personal taste kind of thing.
I do like the views and compositions, especially the 1st and 5th, a lot. But, I'd like to see these more traditionally processed.
p.1 #20 · Day 1 - Grand Canyon, Antelope and Horshoe Bend
Don't touch these with HDR. Don't do itttttttttttttttt. These don't need HDR. I agree with them needing reprocessing. Antelope Canyon is all about the layering from light to dark - and HDR completely takes that away. I'd boost the Saturation on most of those as well as they look very dry.
