Updates are happening now, it seems, and the two lenses are official.

Edit: Looks like the 24/1.4 has ED glass, which the 50/1.4 definitely does not have. The 85/1.4 doesn't have it either.

if the 16-35 was faster, i would be very excited, but at F4, it needs IS.

haha i know what he was talking about, i am just lost as to WHY

Why? Because the Nikkors do not allow you to quickly change tilt and shift orientation. The glass is great, don't get me wrong, but the new Canon's let you rotate not just the whole lens assembly, but also vary the tilt and shift axis, very valuable.

Peace,

Todd

My goodness, it is one heavy lens. It's just a hundred grams or so short of the 180/2.8, checking in at about 620 grams.

i know it HAS vr, i am just saying with it being F4, it HAD to get VR crammed in there. Without VR, it would be a damn worthless piece of junk haha.

Both 24/1.4 and 16-35/4 VR2 have now been officially announced. And yes, the 16-35 does have VR II and will take 77mm filters. Looking for pricing info... praying...

Edit: Clearly my pricing ideas were wrong. $1260 for the zoom, $2200 for the prime. About 11 ounces (32%) lighter than the 14-24.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Nearly 30% cheaper than a 14-24, fully 32% lighter, takes 77mm filters, has VR2, an extra 11mm on the long end and only 2mm lost on the wide end... and the one-stop loss of light does not bother me at all. I also assume and expect the image quality to be All That [tm].

Very nice. Definitely getting one.

Nice - but I hope there is more. A new body? How about some SLOW primes? Just looking at these pictures makes my back hurt. These are big - and the furthest from discrete. Fantastic for what they are ..... but I just hope there is even more.

haha yeah, Nikon has had several (great) slow wide primes for years. Decades, even. If you were waiting on that, you need to take a second look.

Does this mean Nikon is putting VR in their normal zooms as well?

I just got the 24-70 2.8 and if they came out with a VR version I would be very annoyed.

It's too bad most of them are manual focus. Would love to see the 24/2 and 28/2 return in AF-S form. The release of the AF-S 24/1.4 means neither are going to happen, although the 35/1.4 is a real possibility.
